7 Things In My Shopping Cart & The Thought Process Behind Purchasing Them

By

I am extremely undomestic. I don’t mean in the Robin Thicke sense, but rather that I just suck at things like grocery shopping. However, I was down to old Panera mac and cheese and had finished my last bag of popcorn, so I thought that a trip to the grocery store was necessary.

1. Herbal Tea

In an unrealistic attempt to consume less caffeine, I buy herbal tea to add a non-caffeinated selection to my tea drinking options. Although my addiction to caffeine means that this box will likely sit in my cabinet, un-dwindling, for the next year and a half, I suppose that means that the $3.50 I spent on it is a onetime deal and therefor won’t bankrupt me.

2. Protein Bars

I do try and eat something for breakfast (besides coffee). These are convenient to eat in the library at 10:00 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between classes, and the 16 grams of protein make up for the 4000 grams of sugar…maybe?

3. Ice Cream

I bought ice cream because I was growing increasingly depressed every time I opened the freezer and saw my roommate’s Ben and Jerry’s. Also, Kroger had a “Chai tea with chocolate ginger cookies” ice cream, so I’m not about to pass that delicacy up.

4. Frozen Burritos

This was a rather weak attempt at “real dinner food.” Have you ever had El Monterey frozen burritos, though? Until then, please put your judgments away.

5. Hot Chocolate

As soon as the weather dips below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, I feel obligated to have packets of cocoa in my pantry. I also found a variety pack of cherry, mint, caramel, and double chocolate, so obviously that was going in the basket.

6. Low Carb Yogurt (Kroger Brand)

Fruit yogurt with 3 grams of sugar? I should probably question the witchcraft behind this, but instead I stock up on that shit like it’s the zombie apocalypse. Not really though, because I only bought three.

7. Avocados

So these only made it as far as the self-check-out counter, because I found myself at an utter loss as to how to scan or pay for fruit, but it’s the thought that counts. (Anyone who knows how to scan fruit at self-check-out, please comment and let me know.) They were on sale and avocados are rather god-like, so of course they went in the basket. I wasn’t sure how I planned on using them though, so it’s probably smart that they didn’t make the cut.
