I Can’t Tell You What Love Is, But I Can Tell You What It’s Not

What is love?

Well, I might not be able to tell you what love is, I can tell you what it’s not.

After a disastrous relationship with someone I thought I loved, I couldn’t understand why I let all of the unhealthy habits slide.

I thought I knew what love was, but I quickly realized I was clueless.

Love should not be a sinking feeling in your stomach just waiting to be disappointed.
Love should not give you overwhelming anxiety.
Love should not be ignoring your gut.
Love should not rely on hope alone.
Love should not be apologizing for their mess ups as if they were your own.
Love should not feel like you’re helpless.

Love should not be okay with getting dragged down.
Love should not be sacrificing yourself.
Love should not be hiding it from your friends and family.
Love should not be visiting someone in jail and being okay with it.
Love should not be accepting lies.
Love should not build and play on insecurities.

Love should not be giving your all, but still feeling like you aren’t good enough.
Love should not be giving up on yourself.
Love should not be feeling rejected.
Love should not be feeling irrelevant to the one who matters most.
Love should not be lying.
Love should not be worrying if they don’t love you.
Love should not question love.

A healthy relationship cannot rely on this type of love, because it simply is not love.
