You Are The Only One Who Can Save Yourself From Addiction

By

Swimming in the ocean alone,
so much mystery and darkness.
It was only supposed to be
a quick in and out.
But once she started
she couldn’t stop.

It started out as some
fun with friends,
But it quickly morphed
into pain for your family.

The drugs became your best friend.
When you swam out to far
you tried to swim back,
but their grasp was too tight.
So tight that you never realized
I was drowning with you.

I was trying so hard
to keep you afloat,
but addiction was an anchor,
tied around your ankle.
I finally had to let go,
I had to save myself.
You’re still drowning
and I can’t help you now.
