As we hear the news of another musical legend leaving us too soon, I can’t help but join the rest of society in putting Prince on repeat as I read article after article about what has happened to one of the century’s most talented artists.
With that being said, as I had the songs on repeat I couldn’t help but smile and reflect on so many of the daytoday lessons he had incorporated into his songs about life and love. Lessons that seemed so small until I heard them again this afternoon.
1. “Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to get you through this thing called life.”
You’ll get through this wild ride with your friend by your side. So let’s go crazy and let’s go nuts. Make your journey worth it and enjoy the wild ride.
2. “Honey, I know times are changing it’s time we all reach out for something new, that means you too.”
Change isn’t easy, especially when we have to (re)evaluate who we are and what we stand for. But sometimes it’s the best way to overcome the hardships life tends to throw at us.
3. “Wish I had a dollar for every time you say, “Don’t you miss the feeling music gave you back in the day?”
The master of musicology himself understood the importance of the legends that came before him. The soul and thought put into his work will live forever. I’m sure I’m not the only one who promises that if you ever touch my radio while Prince is on, you may lose a hand.
4. “Little Red Corvette baby you’re much too fast. Little Red Corvette, you need a love that’s going to last.”
Slow down. In life and relationships, the best things in life are worth waiting for relax, turn on some Prince and appreciate the rhythm of the music until you find someone who appreciates you.
5. “Love is meant for two.”
Not one, not three, two. Diamonds and Pearls gives every music junkie hope in true love. This song should be required to be played at every wedding.
6. “I love you more than I did when you were mine.”
Love is blind. And this song breaks my heart because so many of us can relate to rough breakups and the heartbreak that comes with them. Prince just understood.
7. “We all have our problems. Some big, some are small. Soon all of our problems will be taken by the cross.”
Nobody is perfect. You’re problems are not greater than someone else’s. When it comes down to it. Have faith the plan that God has for you, most importantly, don’t die without knowing the cross.
* * *
I could make this post 10x longer but it’s not needed because Prince won’t ever be forgotten. His lyrics and words of wisdom will live on for the generations to come because, in all reality, nothing compares. I’ll end my rambling with some of his work because it seemed too perfect not too:
Doubts of our conviction follow where we go. And when the world’s compassion ceases still I know for your every touch I thank you so much For your every kiss I…
I wish you love.
I wish you heaven.
I wish you heaven.
