I Let My Boyfriend Pick My Lipstick Every Day For A Week

By

I’ve been in a rut lately — mood and makeup wise. Every day I was sticking to the same products with the same blah results. The only way to change that was to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone. So I called in my boyfriend, Chad, to hold me accountable. He’s always there to give me the push I need and, unlike me, loves trying new things.

The “boyfriend does my makeup” tag has been floating around the YouTube and blogging world lately, but I knew I wasn’t ready for that. My anxiety paired with my boyfriend’s inability to do makeup makes me nervous just at the thought. So I decided to give him minimal control. I let my boyfriend pick my lipsticks color for an entire week. Let me just say that I had no idea what I was getting in to.

Morphe was nice enough to send me their entire line of Liquid Lipsticks, so he had a full range to pick from. This included everything from pinks and reds to purples and blues, so you already know he had fun with it.

I will admit, this threw my anxiety into high gear for the week. Especially when he picked some of the funkier colors. All in all, it was a pretty fun experiment though. It was cool to see what colors stuck out to him, and I even found some that I’ll be wearing a lot more lately.

I’m not used to wearing such bold colors, so the hardest part was finding the right outfits to wear with the new lippies. Because it’s not every day that you wear purple or blue lipstick. Without further ado, here are the shades — the good, the bad, and the very very ugly.

SUNDAY

I asked him to pick a neutral for Sunday, since I knew I was headed to Cleveland for the day. You might have already seen this shade in my thrifted city style post. Normally, I don’t wear lipstick when I’m just out and about with the family, but this was a great way to ease into the week.

MONDAY

I knew that this one was coming, when I told him he could choose my lipsticks. He’s always been obsessed with the color blue, but I’ve never been brave enough to wear it before. This was my least favorite of the entire week and was waaaay out of my comfort zone. Thankfully, as my shirt suggests, I was home blogging all day, so the only people who could mock me was my family.

TUESDAY

I felt like a Barbie in this lipstick. Because I was feeling lazy [I worked from home and then spent the night at Chad’s] I decided to be workout Barbie and pair it with a sports bra, workout shirt, leggings, and a jean jacket. I won’t be reaching for this one anytime soon.

WEDNESDAY

This is a brighter pink IRL than it is in the picture. I went out for sushi and some shopping for my friend’s birthday, so I was a little nervous to wear such a bright color. But I actually got a lot of compliments on it. I’ll definitely be wearing this one again. especially with this floral print shirt.

THURSDAY

This color sent me into a full-blown panic attack. I put it on and paired it with an outfit [hello, matching scarf], but I couldn’t wear it out. This one was just way too much for me. Needless to say, I won’t be reaching for it any time soon.

FRIDAY

Because I have red hair, I never wear red lipstick. I think it’s a major clash, but I actually really liked this on me! What do you think? I never would’ve stepped out of my comfort zone with this one, but I’ll be wearing this all the time. Kudos to Chad for this pick.

SATURDAY

For the last day, I dipped dyed Easter eggs in a bright pink lipstick. It looked almost red on the lips, but wasn’t as flattering. I feel like he was just running out of fun colors at this point.

He told me that if he had to pick one color, it would be fluorescent green. I’m very glad that I didn’t have that color in my bag. This experiment wasn’t easy, but picking my makeup every day brought my boyfriend and I closer.
