10 Things I Wish Someone Would Have Told Me Before I Turned 20

By

Most times in a person’s life, their fullness in things is measure not by the years but by the moments they live. For a normal 20-year-old girl, I have experienced many things unlike what most young adults experience in their lifetime. There has been good, and bad, but I wouldn’t give it up for the world. I may only be twenty years young, but here’s a few things I have learned over my years of youth.

Hey like I said, I am only 20 years young so I don’t know everything; but I do know for sure that these things have been by far the most important lessons in my life to date.

1. Friends = Quality not Quantity.

All my life I have thought that the more friends I have had, the happier I will be with all of them, boy I was wrong. I can honestly say I only have a few very good friends, and I couldn’t be happier.

2. You definitely need a dog.

Okay whether you are a dog or cat person, just get an animal okay? Besides having something to teach you a little responsibility, you have a little friend who can teach you the true meaning of unconditional love.

3. It’s okay to fall apart.

I know, when you’re 20 you feel like you own the world and have figured everything out already for the most part: wrong. You are only 20, you will need some help from time to time, so don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

4. Don’t take your family for granted.

You only get one family in your lifetime, so make it count. These people love you and would do anything for you. They are basically your own pep squad.

5. Treat others with respect and equality.

We are all human beings with lives, jobs, families to care about, so why not just be nice to everyone and treat others with kindness?

6. Don’t let one bad person ruin your outlook.

One person can really ruin everything. Whether it’s with their actions or their words or opinions, just don’t let it bother you and keep on keepin’ on.

7. Never let bitterness overcome you.

This world is a mean and nasty place, and it can be tough to keep a smile on your face and move on in the day. But you can do this, and you can keep kindness in your heart.

8. Love fully and love deeply.

Please don’t be scared to fall in love again. I would rather live with no regrets then live asking myself, “What if?” You will find that person, you just need to take a chance.

9. Take time for yourself.

Especially when you have an extremely hectic lifestyle, you need to stop for a second and just breathe. Do things that make you happy! Take the time to relax and enjoy life.

10. Make every moment count.

Hey I am already halfway to 40, so I am not going to let any moments escape me. I take risks, I do things that scare me, but most importantly I live my life to the absolute fullest that I can.
