These are the movies that tug at your inner wanderlust, and will make you think “I want to go THERE” for a full 120 minutes.

1. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

This movie basically fulfills the ultimate dream of anyone who’s ever felt wanderlust. A shy guy who’s never really traveled decides to jump on a plane to Iceland to track down his friend. The entire film is whimsical and fun, but the section where he skateboards through the Icelandic countryside is actually what dreams are made of.

2. The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014)

A family leaves their home in India and moves to a small town in France, where they get into a cooking rivalry with a restaurant across the street. After watching this, not only will you want to go to France, you’ll also want to head over to India because the food they make looks AMAZING. Do not watch on an empty stomach, unless you’re prepared to buy a ticket to India. Or call up your local restaurant for delivery.

3. Leap Year (2010)

Yes, this is a pretty standard rom com. A woman from New York travels to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend, but starts falling for her Irish guide instead. The writing and acting won’t change your life, but the views of the Irish countryside just might.

4. Lord of the Rings (2001-2003)

OKAY YES IT’S A FICTIONAL WORLD. But New Zealand has never looked so good, and considering Hobbiton actually exists over there, the movies totally count for this list.

5. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

For the people who live in or around New York: I’m jealous of you. This film captures some beautiful views of the city, and just makes you want to hop on a plane, visit New York in autumn, and walk down those same tree-lined paths as Harry and Sally.

6. Into The Wild (2007)

It’s a movie about a guy who sells all his possessions and hitchhikes his way to Alaska where he plans to live in the wilderness. While I have no desire to actually do any of that, the stunning shots of Alaska definitely make me want to catch a plane to Alaska and stay in, like, a hotel or something.

7. Taken (2008)

LOLOL JK JK. This movie does pretty much the opposite for my wanderlust.

8. Mamma Mia! (2008)

Love it or hate it, the Greek Islands are so pretty, you can’t help but at least sort of love this movie. Also Meryl Streep. BUT THOSE ISLANDS. BE STILL MY HEART.

9. My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

YES I AM AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ANIMATED FILM AND NOT TECHNICALLY A PLACE I CAN GO. But that won’t stop me from wanting to go to there and stand with Totoro in the rain waiting for the bus. Or from wanting to bounce up and down on his belly. Plus, the way the artists depict the Japanese scenery is enough to make you want to see the real thing.

10. 50 First Dates (2004)

Pretty much any movie that’s set in Hawaii is going to make me want to immediately travel to Hawaii, but this movie was the first one that I became obsessed with simply because the scenery is gorgeous.

11. The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

The film depicts Che Guevara’s motorcycle road trip through South America. Once you’ve watched this, not only will you want to explore all of South America, but you’ll want to buy a motorcycle. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
