Your Destiny Is What You Choose It To Be

As I watch and stare at the pastel Sunday afternoon sky from afar, I think about destiny. About how life can become so unpredictable sometimes — a lot of twists and turns have happened lately.

The sky slowly turns from a shade of dark gray with a touch of blue as the sun sets. The inevitable traffic gets us stuck in the road for more than an hour now. I look at the cars outside as they rush, one after the other, and I wonder where they are all going.

The mix of chaos in the street and the magical transformation of the sky above has got me lost in thoughts. It’s almost 6 p.m. where I am, though it’s a different time of the day where he is. It’s almost opposite. Our time difference can be tricky. I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with time zones.

The skyscrapers from afar make me think about that night, unexpected and totally unplanned. Music blaring. People around us dancing. And then we found each other amidst the crowd.

Life has a way of showing us that everything happens for a reason. It’s our willingness to put ourselves out there that makes a big difference. When the reasons finally reveal themselves, you’ll realize that all the events, people, and circumstances you have to go through are all part of a grander plan. You may not know it at the time, but they will all make sense one day.

I’ve always believed that our destiny is our potential waiting to happen, but we must be willing to take that first step, even if it’s a risk. We must be willing to show up. Take the chance and give it, too. The only way to know is to make a choice. It might not always be a walk in the park, but listen to your heart, and if it tells you it’s worth it, then go for it.

Along the way, life has pulled me in different directions and introduced me to new people, changing my perspective every now and then.

Regardless, I’ve journeyed.

I’ve remained open-hearted because I know it takes time and patience.

Everyone we’ve met thus far in this lifetime has played a part in our story. Some have taken up chapters while some were just scribbled notes in the margins. But for sure, there’s always going to be the one we want to grace all the pages we have yet to write.

I remember someone once told me, “Destiny is simply not what happens to you. It’s what you choose to create from whatever and whoever life has given you.”

It’s more like a beautiful, deeply meaningful plan – one that’s perfect (for you). One that puts a smile on your face every morning – the kind that makes you smile inside out.

I look at the crisp, blue summer sky and am brought back to that night. As I put the pieces in place along the way, I know that the deliberate choices I made led me to where I am now and where I’m supposed to be.

The best part is, I wasn’t even looking for it.
