This Is How I Want To Be Remembered

By

I want to be remembered for the amount of laughter I brought. I want to make people smile. I want to make people laugh. Laughter is medicine, and we all could use a little more healing in our lives. When people think of me, I want a smile to cross their face.

I want to be remembered for my kindness. I want to be remembered as the girl who never forgot a birthday. I want to be remembered as the girl who brought cookies to each and every event, meeting, or get together. I want people to know how much I cared. We live in a world that thinks it is “cool” to not care. I want to care. I want to double, triple, and quadruple text a person I like. I want to give over-the-top birthday gifts that show just how much love I have in my heart for you. I want to care with my entire being.

I want to be remembered as the one who showed up. I want people to remember my presence. I want to be there for the ups and the downs, the celebrations and the trials, the failures and the wins. I want to be there for graduations, soccer games, divorces, fights, and engagements. I want people to think of me as the person who was there to listen. I want to be the person people go to to be understood.

I don’t want to be remembered as working all the time. I don’t want to be remembered by my follower count on social media or by how much money I had. I want to be remembered as loving. I want to be remembered by my character, not my clout. I want to be remembered by what really matters: the love I shared.
