1. Seek God

Any relationship that puts seeking God as a priority will find that it has an endurance and strength that is unmatched. In seeking God you will not only learn more about yourself, but also how you can selflessly love the other person in a way that reflects the image and attributes of Jesus.

2. Be Honest

Honesty is key when it comes to any type of relationship. Whether it be with your parents, your spouse, your brother or sister, building a stronger relationship will depend on the level of honesty you are willing to expose. Sometimes this can be extremely tough for people, especially if they have a past they are ashamed of, or failures they are too embarrassed to admit. The beauty of honesty is that it allows people an all-access pass to your feelings and emotions. When you allow someone into your life at this kind of level, the strength of your relationship will grow stronger than you ever could have imagined.

3. Show Forgiveness

This one is easier said than done. Forgiveness is one of those things that everyone talks about, but in reality few actually go through with. It’s one thing to tell someone you forgive them, but it’s a whole different ball-game when that person  can truly act upon it. When you allow forgiveness to consume your relationships, you will soon come to see that resentment and grudges will have no place to infect them. Forgiveness and grace will help take your relationships to a level that cannot be matched. Grudges and grace don’t mix.

4. Have Humility

It’s hard to admit when you’re wrong, and even harder to admit that someone else is right. When you allow the pride in your life to be dismissed, you’re actually telling people you honor and respect their thoughts and opinions in conversation. Humility is another thing that can make or break any relationship. It’s easy for pride to sneak up on you, especially when it comes to something you’re passionate about. What you need to realize is that you are not always going to be right, and that needs to be ok with you.

5. Unplug From Technology 

Get off your phone and mobile devices! I’m definitely at fault for this one. It’s really easy for us to get caught up in the world of Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram. But what we need to realize is that without proper balance, social networking sites can actually hurt our social lives. You know, the relationships that actually matter. Even though social networking is fun and entertaining, we must not forget about the value of a face to face conversation. Go hiking. Go out to dinner. Put away your devices so you can give people the time and attention they deserve.

6. Go On Adventures 

Get away from the cultural norms of life. Get off your couch, get out of your office, and get away from the comfort of your living room. Do something you wouldn’t normally do, and experiences circumstances you wouldn’t normally encounter. When you put yourself in situations that are uncomfortable, you will uncover attributes about yourself and your relationship that you have never had a chance to exercise.
