9 Annoying Things That Happen As Soon As You Get Engaged

1. People complain about how everyone is getting engaged right now. You realize there are other couples in the world — but you don’t want to hear about them during your milestone moment. Your engagement is a big deal for you. It’s annoying when everyone points out how many people are getting engaged right now as if it’s some sort of annoying trend.

2. People drill you about the wedding ASAP. Your person could have proposed ten minutes earlier, but family and friends will still ask if you’ve set a date and selected a venue. Your loved ones have good intentions — but they end up making you feel rushed to make big decisions when all you want to do is relax and enjoy your new engagement.

3. People ask invasive questions about how much the ring costs. You don’t want anyone calling your person cheap — or accusing your person of wasting too much money. You understand they’re excited for you and think the ring is beautiful, but it’s none of their business how much your person spent.

4. People get annoyed by how much you post about it. You’ve complained about engaged couples before — but now that you’re one of them, you don’t want to keep quiet. Wedding planning is exciting. There’s a lot you want to share and you only plan on doing this once, so you want to make the most of it.

5. People wonder why you’ve stopped going out as much. It’s not that marriage is already changing you. It’s that you’ve see the cost of photographers, caterers, and venues — and you know you need to start saving more if you want anything close to your dream wedding.

6. People judge you over how fast you’re moving. They might wonder why you’re getting married so quickly after meeting each other. Or they might roll their eyes and say, “It’s about time,” if you’ve been together for a while. Not everyone is going to give you the reaction you were hoping for.

7. People tell you how to have your wedding. Even though your wedding is supposed to be your day, your loved ones aren’t going to hold back their opinions on what you should and shouldn’t do. They will tell you the ‘right’ way to plan your wedding, even when you never asked for their advice in the first place.

8. People scare you with real-life horror stories. Everyone you know starts telling you about all the ways their own wedding went wrong. They think they’re helping you avoid making the same mistakes, but they only end up making you more stressed about planning.

9. People make fun of marriage. They ask you if you’re really ready to sleep with one person for the rest of your life. They act like everything is going to change as soon as you walk down the aisle, like your freedom is going to be taken away from you. They badmouth marriage in a way that is only half-joking, which makes you uncomfortable, because you couldn’t be more excited about spending forever with your person. TC mark
