50 People Reveal How They Feel About Their Partner’s Twin (And If They Would Hook Up)

You’ll be surprised about the way some of these people from Ask Reddit feel about their partner’s twin.

1. I’m married to an identical twin. I always say I married the hot one. There are more personality differences than you’d think.

2. Married to an identical twin. It’s funny, I met my husband on Tinder, and both him and his twin had profiles. I often think, “What if I would have swiped right on his twin first?” It most definitely wouldn’t have worked. Not because I dislike my husband’s twin, but because our personalities simply don’t click that way.

Regardless, I have a very close relationship with my husband’s twin. I think of him as my protector, and I hope he thinks the same of me. When he moved to our town for a job, he actually lived with us for 6 months, despite the fact that my husband and I were newly married. I look back on that time very fondly — we grew really close. I feel very lucky to have such a great relationship with him.

3. My boyfriend’s twin is like a brother to me. It’s nice to be able to talk to him when I’m concerned about my SO, since he knows how he thinks. When his twin says I have nothing to worry about, I know there isn’t.

4. Married to an identical twin going on 8 years. When I first found out I thought it would be wacky and entertaining like a movie. But it sucks ass. Her twin is a psycho and one of the worst people I’ve ever met. She wants to be the alpha twin. They are so competitive about EVERYTHING.

5. Not much of anything… he’s my brother in law. And honestly, they look less alike than some fraternal twins I know. They have very different personalities, and his brother is totally not my type.

That didn’t stop me from asking some curious questions though…

  1. If we were to find my husband was infertile, would he agree to using his brother as a donor (not in the I’d have sex with him way because ew). I mean, it’s literally the exact same DNA. Hubby said definitely no.

  2. If we have kids, and he has kids, they’re cousins. But are they also technically half-siblings, since they’re half identical DNA/half other mothers? Hubby called me weird.

I think these are legitimate questions!

6. All I can say is that I’m definitely married to the nice one.

7. I am married to one of inseparable Identical twins. My wife and her sister are two peas in a pod and extremely dependent on each other. I knew when I married one I was marrying half of the other one too!

But I love my wife so much! including her sister in the picture too. My wife’s sister is always at our place as much as my wife is at her sisters place. we do have a good dynamic, understanding about the relationships and we have no boundaries broken.

8. Way late to the party, but I know a woman whose husband cheated on her with her identical twin, then got her twin pregnant, divorced her and married her twin. I guess you could say he liked her better. Thanksgivings just don’t happen anymore.

9. Twin is my wife’s evil copy. Wouldn’t touch that mess if my life depended on it

10. I married an identical twin. They have a very similar personality so I get along with my wife’s twin very well. When her twin comes to visit they will exchange clothes sometimes. I saw my wife come out and go back to the room, then saw my wife’s twin come out with a different outfit (thought it was my wife) she went back in another time and changed shirts again.. I was getting annoyed because I figured it was my wife changing for the third time.. nope. Just the twin trying on two shirts.

When we got married my mom was helping my wife put together her bouquet of flowers. She had to get her makeup done so she left the room and my wife’s twin stepped in without missing a beat. My mom went on to have a 20 minute heart to heart with who she thought was her future daughter in law. I finally overheard something and told my mom it was her twin. Poor mom

11. My husband is an identical twin. It‘s weird, because sometimes, especially when walking around or doing something, I really have to watch out not to mix them up. Then, when sitting down or whenever it is absolutely clear who is who, I find the twin looks nothing like my husband and I find him kind of unattractive.

12. I’m married to an identical twin. They are very dependent of each other but fight like you wouldn’t believe. I have tons of funny stories because I lived with both of them for a little while.

When they get angry, they kinda black out and call each other nasty stuff that makes no sense. For example, they will call each other ugly cows (They are 100% identical).

Also, they both sleepwalk A LOT. Like every night. I woke up once to my wife (then girlfriend) putting her rollerblades on at night while her sister was walking around the apartment with a stovetop like a tray and a wooden spoon. She was dreaming of being a waitress I guess. I just went back to bed. Also, you know that scene in Paranormal Activity where the wife stands by the bed staring at her husband for hours. Yep, that’s just a tuesday for me.

As for my feelings toward her twin, she’s like a sister only. Nothing more.

13. My sister in law is married to an identical twin. The only noticeable difference between the two is the twin stands up straighter. From what I understand, she is incredibly attracted to the twin (obviously, right?) and doesn’t allow herself to be drunk around him. It causes me anxiety to think about that.

14. My dad is a twin. My mom actually dated his twin first and when they broke up, my dad asked her out.

15. I started dating a twin. When my room mate met her he joked “she’s hot, does she have a twin?”, so I introduced them and they started dating. My room mate and my wife’s twin got married two years before my wife and I got married. So now at family gatherings, its me and my old room mate hanging out with our twin wives. Its weird but really great.

And then to make it especially crazy, the two of them had children a couple years ago. They had twins. That were born on the birthday of… our wives.

16. I’m actually quite fond of him. But my husband’s twin is gay and my husband is not, so I imagine that changes the dynamics quite a bit. We talk about guys and relationships and watch a lot of real housewives together. The three of us lived together for a while before my husband and I got married and it was fun.

Sometimes I’ll look at him and think “huh. So that’s what my husband would look like if he showered and shaved and cared about his wardrobe. Good to know.”

17. I’m married to a twin and she asked me if I found her sister attractive. I said, “Of course, I do; you’re twins! If I find you attractive, then it would be illogical for me not to find her attractive, too!”

Thankfully, she laughed and agreed with me.

18. My wife is a twin. Her sister and I have a relationship that I would liken to brother and sister. I am an only child, so it works out great for me.

As far as romantic interests go, I am not interested in the twin at all. They are completely different people, so there is no danger of her and I “hooking up” or anything at all like that.

19. I am getting married to a twin next week! I can definitely tell their looks apart but if they are in another room talking to one another it just sounds like she is having a conversation with herself. They have the exact same laugh and voice which can be confusing at times.

20. I find his brother ugly LOL. I see them completely different.

21. I love him more than I feel like I would a normal brother in law because he is a carbon copy of my husband. But I have no romantic feelings towards him whatsoever. Their personalities are polar opposites and I could never be attracted to him sexually or anything.

22. I dated a twin. Her identical twin sister was insanely jealous to the point of cockblocking. We broke up for unrelated reasons. My friend went on to marry twin in question and they had similar problems. Her twin is really co-dependent and intrusive. Not respectful of boundaries and would literally try to get between them. Super weird.

23. I was dating an identical twin. Her sister was married and had 3 kids. They did not look identical. Crazy what kids could do to you.

24. I’m married to an identical twin – and they are identical. Identical hairstyles, they do everything together, we have to live within a 5 minute radius of each other, they dress in the same style, and if one buys something then the other decides they like it and have to buy one as well. e.g. We bought a new light for over our dining room table; a while later I notice my SIL has a new light – the same one we bought. This happens all the time. More of a running joke with my brother in law – we’re doing a kitchen reno right now so his wife started up about maybe they need to do one too.

I’d say there’s four things I notice.

  1. They spend a LOT of time together. Like probably 20 times a day they text or call, every day. It’s constant.

  2. I’ve realized I’m about to mistakenly get a bit grabbedy-assed with someone I’m not married to once or twice.

  3. Occasionally we show up at the SIL’s house and they realize they’re wearing the same thing. They don’t care that they have similar tastes, but they won’t deliberately wear identical clothes.

  4. My spouse sometimes gets recognized as their twin around the small town we live in. We’ll get some looks from people that are pretty sure it’s the twin, but something seems off. My spouse just says ‘I’m not <twin’s name>”. I try and goad her into saying something obnoxious and blame it on the twin, but no dice. Biggest example of this was someone in town mentioning that my SIL was seen around town with ‘a different guy, not their husband’. Of course what they’d seen was me and my spouse.

Probably not that different than most sister in laws TBH. the good news is that I married the evil twin.

25. Have a wife that is a identical twin. I can tell who is who, and I’m not attracted to her sister.

Also she has a different smell than my wife, and I don’t like it.

26. I (gay dude) dated a twin once, and his identical brother was in the closet at the time. The one I was dating cheated on me and the in-the-closet one consoled me, and we ended up sleeping together. It was super surreal. He was definitely the gentler, sweeter twin, but we didn’t continue the relationship. Anybody knows dating someone freshly out of the closet and just discovering their identity is not going to last. Their bodies were identical and I really loved his brother before the heartbreak of him cheating, so it was intense and crazy.

27. She is a great sister in law. Spoils my son like an aunt should. She is completely different from my wife as a person and even though she looks the same there is zero physical attraction.

Just last week we were all over at my wife’s parents house and I was sitting in a chair watching my one year old play with grandma. My SIL (twin) was standing next to the chair. Without me knowing, she walked away and my wife came and stood next to me. She grabbed my hand and have it a squeeze and I got really awkward because I had no idea they had switched places on me until I looked. My MIL thought that was hilarious.

28. I’m engaged to a twin. Her sister is a good friend, but I’m not attracted to her at all. Their personalities are quite different. Just because they were identical at birth, doesn’t mean they have to be identical for life. Their interests and career paths have diverged greatly. I can honestly say that my fiancee is one of a kind, and makes my life better and happier than anything I could have imagined.

29. I am an identical twin and I am dating an identical twin. It’s not that weird to me but probably because I’ve lived my life with an identical twin of my own. Her sister is great and got married last August. Couldn’t be happier for her and I plan on popping the question early next year to my girlfriend.

Everyone in her family says that we’re going to have quads…God I hope not.

30. I used to date an identical twin, her sister and I did NOT get along. She was a stuck-up, vapid, sanctimonious girl. When I started dating my ex, her sister was the hot one, by the end of the relationship, my twin was the hot one.

31. My boyfriend of 8 years has an identical twin. I met them both in high school, so I was friends with both of them for several months before my bf and I started dating. He and his twin had always lived together until about a year ago, so the three of us hang out together a lot. Early on his twin told me that he sometimes felt like a third wheel hanging out with a couple, but I sometimes felt like a third wheel hanging out with a set of twins, so we agreed to be friends and not worry about it. He and I are still great friends and it makes my boyfriend happy that his twin and his gf get along. They have very different personalities and have started to look less alike over the years, so I sometimes forget that they are identical twins.

32. My wife was the more outgoing twin in high school, where we met. Her sister…she was the quiet one.

You gotta watch out for the quiet ones.

My wife and I fell deeply in love, and barring a single 2 week period in Freshman year of college, have been together since high school. We have two gorgeous kids, and while our living situation isn’t what I’d call “long-term,” I consider our relationship and family as steady as a rock.

My SiL is wired to want the comfort of that stability. She wants it more than anything in this world. She wants it so much that she has consistently shot herself in the foot trying to get it. Things like going on A SINGLE DATE with someone from a dating app, then chewing them out a day later because she sees them on the app. “I THOUGHT OUR DATE WENT GREAT WHY ARE YOU STILL ON HERE?!”

She also continually bitches and moans about how she can’t find a good guy. Her standard mode of search is to go to the shadiest country bars and/or house parties, get blackout drunk, and let the chips fall as they may.

She is consistently unhappy with her work situation, to the point where she’s earning a comfortable base salary, lives where she works in a company home (all hers!) With paid utilities, and is STILL griping about her job. Her current position is the least stressful possible set of responsibilities still within her field.

Finally, she will not communicate. Twice now we’ve had her essentially assume she’s good to stay over at our place without even asking. Once, we weren’t home AND she had her current boyfriend with her. When we call her on her shit, WE (me, more specifically) become the bad guys.

All of this said, I love her. She is more my sister than a sister in law. And it breaks my heart that, for all her intelligence, she won’t step back and take a critical look at her own life. If she did, she would realize that 90% of her problems either aren’t problems, or could be fixed by her.

33. Surprising as it is, I do not get along nearly as well with my sister in law. Despite being twins and very similar, I have difficulty communicating with her. Any type of joke or simple conversational quip has a good chance of going over her head. Often times my wife will translate for me because she understands how my mind can make serious leaps.

That and, I’m in the Army, so when me and my wife first started getting serious and it became apparent she was going to move to be with me, her sister treated me like utter shit. Things are fairly amiable now but I haven’t forgot how much of a bitch she was at first.

34. My wife’s identical twin sister does my fucking nut in.

35. I dated a twin my last year of high school/first year of college. He was an abuse asshole who threatened to kill me. His twin was abusive but only emotionally, and he enabled his brother’s abusive nature and enabled him when he stopped taking his schizophrenia medications.

They also had strange sternum bones where they could actually fit together like a two piece puzzle.

36. I dated a twin. Her sister at first seemed kinda jealous. Then when we started fighting it seemed like she tried to drive a wedge between us. I should’ve known it because my ex was always trying to get her to break up with her bf, whom my ex didn’t care for. My ex was definitely the beta and her sister was the alpha. This meant I could do something “wrong” and she wouldn’t confront me until she’d had time to consult her sister about it. We eventually broke up and I’m pretty sure her sister spread nasty rumors about me cause people I know that she was friends or had dealings with started treating me differently. C’est la vie.

37. My girlfriend has an identical twin sister.

Let me tell you, “do you think my sister is hot?” Has never been more of a trick question.

38. A friend of mine was married to a lovely young woman who was hit by a car while jogging and killed. She had an identical twin, though. So he still knows the twin and he claims that she’s a different person to him so it’s not a trip. I have to take his word for it. I feel like I’d be really tripped out.

39. I am married to an identical triplet. Her sisters and I get along though there is some interesting friction. They’d been as close as you can imagine their whole lives, never living more than 10 minutes from each other or their parents. When we got married, my wife made it clear that she’d always wanted to get away from her family for a while and learn to be more independent. After just 3 months of marriage, we moved 1400 miles away. The initial reaction from both sisters was very negative. Both towards myself and my wife. Now 8 years later, we still live 1400 miles away but visit regularly. One sister understands and has developed an even closer, long distance relationship with my wife, the other continues to be passive aggressive toward us and constantly tries to guilt trip my wife. We have never regretted our decision to move away. The three of them love each other deeply but also have an unhealthy competitive nature.

I get along with them fine but have a pretty short temper with the passive aggressive one. That being said, when we do all get together for dinner, myself and the sister’s husband’s all just shut up and watch as the three of them meld back into their one crazy unit for a short amount of time. But when that time is over, I enjoy seeing my wife revert to the strong independent woman she’s become.

40. Married to an identical twin, and with two children. I somehow find my wife’s twin way to carry herself very attractive, a little bit more than my wife’s, but the twin and I have very incompatible personalities and way of thinking, as opposed to my wife which couldn’t be a better match.

When I met them, on a kind of local youth group, I didn’t know they were two people. They used to go together but they had been elected as their condominium managers and had things to do in the same time as the youth group would meet. So they would alternate to go.

Well, we hanged out for almost six months and they never said anything about being a twin. “She” (in my mind) had some weird inconsistencies in her beliefs, knowledge and way of thinking, but I accepted because that’s kind of ok, I guessed.

I fell in love and was about to ask “Her” (them) out, when they finally both showed up. I was extremely confused, they admitted to have been deliberately omitting being twins. I got flustered, felt betrayed, and started doubting my feelings and memories with that person that now I knew did not exist. I stopped going to the group, because my only reason to go there had been “Her”.

Almost a year later, I got back to the group, somewhere inside hoping they would be there. I don’t know what I expected but I still hoped something could come out of it. They weren’t there. Later they told me they felt so guilty they stopped going to the group for shame in meeting me.

Weeks later, now with no hope in ever seeing one of them again, I randomly bump with, now my wife, in the university’s campus. We get to talk and I ask her out and we started dating.

The first time later I saw her twin I felt weird though, I remembered and noticed some of the very attractive things “She” would do was actually the twin. I also found out all of the inconsistencies and incompatibilities and the things I didn’t like that much was also part of the twin’s personality.

We moved in together for a bit, the three of us, and the twin and I got to be friends. It was fun, the three of us, but like many people know, twins are very dependent of each other, and everything changed after my son was born. My wife’s attention was 90% to our baby and me, but my sister-in-law couldn’t understand and started having increasingly intense episodes of jealousy. She turned completely against me saying bad things about me to her family. My mother-in-law took her pain and not only she dislikes me she constantly tried to manipulate my wife against me and our relationship, saying things like our son was also my sister-in-law’s son, that if she dumped me our son would have two mothers and etc.

My wife and I talked a lot, as we always did, and thanks to that I could know what was happening behind the scenes in her family and all this movement against me so I could defend myself against all the unfounded accusations. We moved out of there and now live half a continent away.

To this day I still thank the universe I bumped with the right twin in that campus.

41. My wife has a twin sister who was my ex during our teen years. I treasure the moments that i had with her in the past and being able to grow together now that she’s my sister in law.

Fun fact: Her twin sister is married to my buddy who was the ex to my wife. We sometimes joke about it wondering how life would be if we didn’t swap partners.

42. Not married, but I’m in a long term relationship with an identical twin, and as far as I know, I’m the only person who has kissed both of them. I actually was friends with both twins for years before I started dating one of them. I met my current bf first and had a huge crush on him, but he was very reserved and hard to get close to. When I met his twin, I had a small crush on him, just because he reminded me of my crush, but was more outgoing and easier to befriend. His twin is super flirty too, and ended up kissing me while I was working at a kissing booth at a weird Valentine’s Day party.

That ended up being slightly awkward when my bf and I finally got together after 4 years of friendship, but he knows about it and doesn’t really care. And now that I’ve got the real thing, I don’t have any attraction to his brother and just see him as a good friend. Sure, he’s got the same facial structure and mannerisms as my boyfriend, but they have very different styles. The twin is a cool guy and cute enough, but my boyfriend has been through hardships that his twin has not, and he’s developed a unique depth of character and humility from his experiences that makes him a very sexy, magnetic person.

43. My aunty lost her husband and father of her child in the war. She married his twin brother afterwards.

44. I love my husband’s twin like he’s my brother too, he even calls me “sis.” They look so different that I haven’t had any and conflicting feelings, and would never mistake them unless their backs were turned to me. My husband wears his hair a little longer and is clean shaven, and is typically dressed for the office. His brother keeps his hair buzzed short and wears a long beard, and dresses to work outside.

45. Not married but my girlfriend has an identical twin and she is her complete polar opposite and a giant c***. I always tell her it’s easy to know which of them is the evil twin.

46. I dated twin brothers in 6th grade.

One asked me out one day and then the other asked me out later that week.

I didn’t realize what a boyfriend was then. I also didn’t realize you can’t have two at the same time EVEN if they are twins.

They were both arrested for hate crimes as adults.

I guess I dodged two bullets.

47. My husband was born with a mostly absorbed identical twin. The doctors removed it and all he has is a tiny scar, but I shit you not he has two personalities. Sometimes I think that half of his brain is one twin and the other half is the other. He also refers to himself as we a lot without much thought.

48. I have a friend who’s married to an identical triplet.

One time he was visiting his SIL and she asked him to leave the room because she was going to nurse her baby.

His reply – “I’ve already seen everything you have so no need for me to leave”

The SIL wasn’t too happy with that response

49. My sister in laws ex husband is a twin. He left her and it took her a long time to move on because she would keep hanging out with the twin and his wife.

50. I’m an identical twin and the day me and my husband are getting married, my mother says to me, “Hey, did you know in high school that [husband] really had the hots for [my twin sister]? Weird, huh?” Apparently, he had told my mother this in confidence when he went and bought my wedding present, and she felt the need to tell me this. On my wedding day. I bring it up constantly now, because it crushed me on my wedding day, and now I find it hilarious.

When we officially “met” I had recently colored my hair platinum, which is the color my sister had her hair in high school. So he also thought I was my sister then and that’s why he struck up conversation, only to find out I was the “other” twin. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
