This took place early last week and seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle of Obama’s immigration speech (bump to 20 seconds).
The Senate failed to achieve a filibuster proof majority (60 votes) to approve the construction the KeystoneXL pipeline which brings Canadian tar sands oil through the United States and Sioux Indian territory and down to the Gulf of Mexico to be refined into gasoline.
Greg Gray Cloud of the Redbud Sioux tribe broke into song after the vote which puts of the construction of the pipeline for a little while at least.
According to Grey Cloud, the song translates as follows:
“Grandfather look at me, I am standing here struggling, I am defending Grandmother Earth and I am chasing peace.”
