John Kerry is warmongering this week. The below is from his news conference today on Syria and chemical weapons as reported by the New York Times.
What we saw in Syria last week should shock the conscience of the world. It defies any code of morality. Let me be clear. The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. By any standard, it is inexcusable. And despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured, it is undeniable.
The meaning of this attack goes beyond the conflict on Syria itself. And that conflict has already brought so much terrible suffering. This is about the large-scale indiscriminate use of weapons that the civilized world long ago decided must never be used at all, a conviction shared even by countries that agree on little else.
Disagree with him, even slightly? Have any questions about whether threatening war is a wise or necessary course of action? John’s got an answer for you.
Anyone who could claim that an attack of this staggering scale could be contrived or fabricated needs to check their conscience and their own moral compass.
That’s right, think that chemical weapons may have been used by the Syrian insurgency, which is 50% foreign jihadists according to Doctors Without Borders, and you are an immoral individual, adrift at sea, awash in sin. Here’s the video from the Guardian:
And here’s the recent sequence of events that should give you pause immediately:
- The US and its allies are considering launching strikes on Syria in response to deadly attacks last week.
- The US said there was “undeniable” proof of a chemical attack, on Monday.
- UN chemical weapons inspectors are due to start a second day of investigations in the suburbs of Damascus.
Oh, so the investigation isn’t even complete yet. Kerry is just making claims based on “Intelligence” that no one but he and the Administration and some key allies have access to. None of it’s being revealed. What does that sound like?
That’s right, it sounds like John Kerry making the WMD case against Saddam Hussein and Iraq in 2002 based on “Intelligence” that we clearly never really had. As the man says….
But really, why even wait for the evidence that Kerry and Obama are demanding. Let her fly, maybe this Thursday.
Congratulations Mr. President, you are now getting us directly involved in an illegal war based on secret intelligence with no substantive explanation completely independent of UN Security Council authority while sporting a stellar 25% US approval rating for such a move. That’ll turn out well.
