Thought Catalog Is Hiring A Trending News Writer Intern

By

Trending news is a genre of internet content that is produced at increasing frequency by digital publishers, but remains elusive to define. Trending news is content that engages with the news, but also helps create the news. By discovering new irresistible stories and packaging them effectively, media outlets can drive traffic while also establishing cultural clout. Today’s challenge in a crowded media world is creating high volumes of content that the audience loves while still delivering a good reader experience (ex: avoiding labels of “clickbait”).

That’s where you come in.

Thought Catalog is looking for a paid intern to join our trending news team. In this position you will learn and work with Thought Catalog staff and develop yourself into a digital media expert. The internship will be designed to support you in honing your voice, and in establishing a personal trending news brand. In addition to writing and content creation, you will develop skills in social media management, data analysis, and remote workplace communication.

You, the candidate, should possess a desire to tell stories people will want to share. You should be highly productive, self-motivated, and willing to work quickly while minimizing errors. You need to live and breathe internet culture and have a mastery of multiple social media platforms. Having some basic image-editing software you are proficient in is also a must.

You must be available at least 25 hours a week (M-F) in at least 5 hour blocks of time — preference will be given to candidates with more open availability. This is a remote position, so you should have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection! Sorry, we cannot currently hire outside the United States!

This position is not for those whose primary interest is essay writing, or other types of content not related to trending news.

Sorry, applications are now closed:

The application will ask for the following things as separate attachments:

  1. Resume / CV
  2. 400 maximum word statement of purpose explaining your interest in this position, and why you think you’re a good fit
  3. A letter of recommendation from someone who can attest to your work ethic and skills (optional, but recommended)
