Augustus Sol Invictus is the Libertarian Party’s candidate for Senate in the state of Florida, and he is also a practicing pagan who doesn’t deny participating in animal sacrifices.
This information came to light after the very public resignation of Florida Libertarian Party Chairman Adrian Wyllie. Wyllie resigned because of Invictus’ support within the party, and he sure wasn’t shy about airing his dirty laundry in a column he published after his resignation.
Mr. Invictus has repeatedly vowed that it is his destiny to start a second civil war in America. In a 2013 memo to his colleagues, he wrote, “I have prophesied for years that I was born for a Great War; that if I did not witness the coming of the Second American Civil War, I would begin it myself.”
He has described himself as an American fascist, and even his campaign logo is nearly identical to that of Benito Mussolini. He has displayed swastikas in his published campaign materials.
He has expressed support for a eugenics program, which would sterilize, euthanize or forcibly abort “the weakest, the least intelligent, and the most diseased.”In a private, face-to-face meeting with Mr. Invictus, I asked him directly, “Do you actually intend to kill millions of people and start a civil war?” His answer to me was, “It’s my religion.”
I would never disparage anyone on the basis of their religion. But, since Mr. Invictus cites his religion as the motivation for his violent intentions, I believe it must be scrutinized.
Mr. Invictus practices Thelema, an occult pagan religion based on the teachings of Aleister Crowley. Mr. Invictus was ejected from one order of the religion for brutally and sadistically dismembering a goat in a ritualistic sacrifice.
Even the legally-changed name he chose for himself is revealing. August Sol Invictus is Latin, and translates to “the Unconquerable Sun God.”
Invictus’ own written materials have also raised some eyebrows among the Floridan political establishment:
“I want you to take LSD and practice sorcery,” Invictus wrote on his blog, “I want you to listen to trap music and black metal, to learn the law and to break it deliberately, to find your own religion. I want you to learn the use of firearms and subject yourselves to rigorous physical training. I want you to treat your bodies as Holy Temples and to take your girlfriend to a strip club so you can seduce a dancer in the back room. I want you to worship Nature and dance naked in the moonlight `round the fire, screaming in ecstatic joy.”
Invictus has now come forward, however, to refute some of Wyllie’s claims. He says that he absolutely never dismembered a goat, but admits that he has sacrificed animals many times in the past:
“I have never dismembered a goat in my life. I have performed animal sacrifices as part of my religion,” Invictus told Politico. “I was expelled from the order for political reasons. And animal sacrifice was part of it. But that is a deliberate misrepresentation by Wyllie.”
Oh, well that clears it up!
If the election were between Charlie Crist, Rick Scott, and this guy, I’m not sure who I would pick…
