National Coming Out Day is a widely recognized holiday that celebrates LGBTQ+ persons with non-privileged gender identities and sexual orientations. The idea of “coming out” truly formed in the late 1900s where a budding gay rights movement saw a need for people to recognize that LGBTQ persons were their friends, family, coworkers, and loved ones. As people have gotten to know the LGBTQ people in their own life, the world has slowly become more accepting. This #NationalComingOutDay is hopefully another step in that process.
