There has been a lot in the news lately about out-of-control cops who have been using excessive force or just generally not doing their job with integrity.
Thankfully, this story isn’t like that at all.
Police Officer Michael Castillo was called to a local Target store to respond to a fight that was allegedly taking place right outside the establishment. But when he got to the store, all he saw were some kids hanging out front with their bikes.
“I asked if they were fighting and they said, ‘No, we’re just playing, we’re all friends,’” Castillo said to ABC News.
That was when he noticed that one of the boy’s bike chain was broken, he decided he should help out.
“I fixed the chain and tightened up the tire and told them, ‘Alright guys, go play somewhere else besides the Target parking lot. They’re good kids.”
Castillo has been inundated by calls and media requests, but he doesn’t think the deed makes him special.
“I didn’t expect this. I just saw the kids, they needed some help, I helped the kids.”
A woman who watched the scene take place snapped a photo with her phone and posted it to the local police station Facebook page, lauding the officer for his actions.
The community has reacted INCREDIBLY positively to this news (no surprise!):
And while one good deed does not mean we should forget all the problems that law enforcement does have across America, it can be an awesome reminder that we also have some extremely dedicated citizens “wearing blue” who want to be a part of the solution.
