A Reminder To Be Gentle On Yourself This Holiday Season

By

This holiday season, make sure you allow yourself to feel some compassion… for you.

It’s been a hell of a year for all of us. It’s been long and it felt like it was never going to end, yet somehow, we’re now just a few days away from a brand new one.

So, why not make a promise to each other right here and right now? How about promising that this holiday season we won’t let ourselves be pressured into finishing the year strong, but instead just feel proud that we passed the finish line.

How about promising that this holiday season we won’t let ourselves be pressured into taking on more than we can handle? How about promising that just for a couple of weeks we will make sure to nurture ourselves, instead of trying to fit neatly into whatever box is deemed acceptable.

It’s time to take a step back and celebrate the months that have passed. It’s time to accept that what you did this year was enough. You were enough and you did the absolute best that you could in those moments. You chose to walk away when you felt that you had to protect yourself and you chose to stay when you felt safe. You might have made a lot of difficult decisions this year, but they all brought you to this moment right here. So, allow yourself to feel proud and take comfort in the thought that there was nothing more that you could have done.

This holiday season, stay true to yourself and keep in mind that whatever happens, you will rise above it all and you will be ok, my dear.

If you have to say goodbye and close a few chapters before the new year begins, then so be it. Unfollow them, unfriend them, forgive them and try your best to forget them. Give yourself the best chance at starting over again.
