Racial Discrimination Against Those Who Light Firecrackers In Their Underwear

By

Six days ago someone of apparent Chinese extraction (Google Translate detected their user name—“吐瀉物温泉”—as Chinese and said it means “Vomiting and diarrhea Spa”) uploaded a video onto Vine of a light-skinned male lighting a firecracker he’d stuffed in his underwear and apparently blowing up his spring roll in the process.

This afternoon @VineFights on Twitter linked to it and added the comment “white people are fearless,” even though the writing on the hapless daredevil’s lighter is clearly in some Asian script.

Obviously racism is still deeply entrenched in this country, or people wouldn’t give white people credit for this act of derring-do and genital self-mutilation. We still live in an institutionally racist environment when what is clearly an Asian male is shoved aside in order to make white people feel superior all over again. Personally, I’m shaking my head at this. I’m shaking my damn head. I’m shaking my damn head so hard, you can hear it rattling. This is the most blatant act of cultural appropriation in America since the US Patent Office, which is obviously controlled by the KKK, refused to give George Washington Carver credit for inventing the peanut.

After all we’ve been through as a nation—slavery, lynchings, separate water fountains, the Civil Rights era, the Tuskegee Experiment, Emmett Till, the Scottsboro Boys, Rodney King, Mike Tyson, Nipsey Russell, Arthur Ashe, Tawana Brawley, Al Sharpton, Vanilla Ice, Solange Knowles, Frederick Douglass, Steve Urkel, W. E. B. Du Bois, the Black Israelites, Yahweh Ben Yahweh, Professor Leonard Jeffries, and Oprah Winfrey’s alleged lesbian personal valet—it shows that we clearly have far more work to do before we reach the mountaintop and sit down to have brunch with Dr. Martin Luther King.
