You’re Never Going To Feel Good Enough

By

You’re never going to feel good enough if you keep dwelling on your mistakes. So you flunked a test? So you got dumped? So you said something stupid during an interview? None of it is a reflection of your self-worth. You’re still valuable, even if you don’t get the grade you wanted or the career you wanted or the boy you wanted. You’re allowed to feel your feelings. You’re allowed to be upset with yourself or your situation overall, but you can’t surrender to the hurt. You can’t punish yourself forever.

You’re never going to feel good enough if you keep comparing yourself to the people around you. You can’t buy into the lie that everyone else is smarter or prettier or more put together than you. The grass only looks greener from where you’re standing because you aren’t able to see the struggles they’re currently experiencing. You’re only able to see their successes, the posed pictures posted online, the accomplishments shared and the popped champagne. Just because their struggles aren’t out in the open doesn’t mean their life is perfect. For all you know, they could be thinking the same thing about your life.

You’re never going to feel good enough if you keep believing life has to follow a specific pattern. You don’t have to get married by a certain age. You don’t have to own a home at a certain age. Would those things be nice? Sure. Are they necessary steps toward happiness? Not at all. Besides, you don’t want to get married to the wrong person or buy a home you can’t afford. You don’t want to settle or cause yourself more stress. If you’re going to reach those milestones, you want them to feel as exciting to you as they look to everyone else. And that might require some waiting.

You’re never going to feel good enough if you keep buying into the narrative that you’re falling behind. It’s not too late to reach for your dreams. It’s not too late to find love. It’s not too late to accomplish any of the goals scribblled on your bucket list because your heart is still pumping. If you want something, chase after it instead of rattling off excuses about it not being the right time. Instead of counting up all of your regrets, do something about them. You still have a shot. It’s not over yet.

You’re never going to feel good enough unless you surrender this idea of perfection. You’re never going to be perfect. You’re always going to have flaws that need fixing, wounds that need healing, insecurities that need beating. You’re never going to be one-hundred percent satisfied with yourself — and that’s okay.

You’re never going to feel good enough because you’re always going to be striving for more. You’re never going to let yourself settle. As long as you’re always pushing to become a better person than you were yesterday, as long as you’re putting in effort to propel yourself forward each and every day, you’re on the right path. And you should be damn proud of yourself.
