When You Get Rejected, Don’t Be Too Hard On Yourself

By

When you get rejected, you’re going to experience a sudden drop in confidence. You’re going to start questioning yourself about things you didn’t even realize you were insecure about before. You’re going to go through a period where you’re unsure about everything you thought you knew. And that’s okay. You’re not invincible. It’s normal for you to have doubts about yourself. It’s normal for you to wonder whether you did something wrong, whether you should have made different decisions, whether you made an unsolvable mistake.

When you get rejected, you need to remind yourself that you aren’t as unlovable as you feel. You need to remind yourself, that chances are, you didn’t actually do anything wrong. But first, you’re allowed to dwell in your disappointment for a little while. You’re allowed to complain. You’re allowed to listen to sad songs. You’re allowed to vent to your friends. You’re allowed to crawl beneath the covers and spend the rest of the day in bed. You’re allowed to be upset about the fact you aren’t getting the ending you wanted so badly.

When you get rejected, you cannot allow your situation to turn you bitter. You cannot allow yourself to spiral. You cannot allow yourself to suddenly start thinking the world is out to get you and no one is ever going to accept you and you’re wasting your time. You have to remember that what happened to you does not define you. Getting rejected doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. It doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It doesn’t mean you’re never going to experience happiness again. It only means you need to get back up on your feet and try again. It means you haven’t reached your destination yet, but you should keep hoping, keep trying.

When you get rejected, you’re going to have to find a way to accept what happened to you. Once you accomplish that, you’re going to have to learn how to grow from it, learn from it, become a better person from it. Even though your worst experiences are difficult to deal with in the moment, they can be helpful in the long-run. They can help shape you. They can direct your path as you move forward.

When you get rejected, it’s easy to give up. It’s easy to say there’s no point in trying. It’s easy to decide you’re never going to take a risk again because you don’t want to get hurt again. But you cannot allow yourself to take the easy way out. You cannot give up on your own version of happily ever after and settle for an existence that is simply okay. You have to keep your chin up. You have to keep your motivation high. You cannot give up on your dreams. You cannot lose faith in yourself.

When you get rejected, it sucks, but you’re going to get over it. Your heart is going to heal. Your ego is going to recover. Your future is going to turn out just fine.
