When You Get Ghosted, It's Hard To Let Go

When You Get Ghosted, It’s Hard To Let Go

When you get ghosted, you know you shouldn’t try to get in contact with them again. As badly as you want closure, you know it doesn’t matter why they left. All that matters is that they did leave. They abandoned you. They walked out of your world without a goodbye. You shouldn’t want anything to do with a person like that — but for some reason, you can’t get them out of your head. You want to see them. You want to text them. You want everything to go back to the way it used to be.

When you get ghosted, it can severely damage your self-confidence. It can make you feel like you’re inadequate, like you did something wrong, like you weren’t exciting enough to hold their interest. Even if you never told them how much you cared about them, when it comes down to it, they rejected you. You wanted their attention and they took it away. They decided they didn’t want you around anymore. They decided to move on without your blessing.

When you get ghosted, the sudden change can feel jarring. Just yesterday, you were daydreaming about creating a future alongside this person. Just yesterday, you were talking and laughing together. Just yesterday, everything felt fine. You had no idea they were going to run out on you. You had no idea they weren’t feeling the same sparks you were feeling. You thought you were on the same page.

When you get ghosted, you might feel the urge to fight for your relationship. You might want to set things right with this person, talk things through with this person, compromise with this person. But they took that option away from you. If they wanted to work things out, they could have had a conversation with you, but they didn’t. They ghosted you for a reason. Because they aren’t interested in finding a fix.

When you get ghosted, it can take a long time to heal from your heartache. You thought you had a special connection with this person. You thought you were hitting it off with this person. You didn’t see the goodbye coming. You weren’t ready for it. Since it came out of the blue, it might take a while for you to adjust. It might take a while for you to come to terms with what happened.

When you get ghosted, you might have trouble letting go. You might want to reach out to them. You might want to beg for a second chance — or you might want to demand answers from them. You probably have a million questions for them, but at the end of the day, they already told you everything you needed to hear. They told you they don’t want you in their world anymore. They told you they aren’t interested in a relationship with you, or even a friendship with you. And as much as that hurts, you’re going to have to accept it. You’re going to have to move on from them. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
