5 Reasons To Drop Everything And Watch The ‘Breaking Bad’ Movie

By

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t finished Breaking Bad yet, hurry up and binge.

Breaking Bad ended with Jesse Pinkman plowing down a fence inside of an El Camino. That’s why it’s fitting the title of his new movie is El Camino.

We don’t know much about the film yet, except it’s being released on October 11th and “follows the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.” That kidnapped man, of course, is our beloved Jesse.

Here are a few reasons why you won’t want to miss this movie (as if Aaron Paul’s good looks — and authentic, heart-string-pulling acting — aren’t enough):

1. Vince Gilligan wrote and directed El Camino.

Vince Gilligan is a genius. He was the creator, head writer, executive producer, and director of Breaking Bad. He also went on to create one of the most successful spinoffs in history, Better Call Saul. If Vince is involved, then there’s no doubt El Camino is going to be written beautifully. Of course, it also means a lot of tragic, heart-wrenching shit is about to go down. Jesse Pinkman probably won’t have it easy, but we can keep our fingers crossed there will be a happy (or at least bittersweet) ending.

2. It’s going to be an emotional journey.

In the first few seconds of the trailer, there are photographs of Hank and Gomez hanging on the walls. They died while on the job — and now their faces are preserved above the water cooler. If this subtle detail makes you as emotional as it makes me, El Camino is going to cause a lot of tears.

3. Old characters are coming back.

No one knows who’s set to appear in El Camino aside from Jesse — and judging by the trailer, Skinny Pete. But honestly, any character that appears is going to reveal a lot about the post-Breaking Bad universe.

If we see Marie, we’ll get to see how she’s holding up without Hank. If we see Walt Junior, we’ll get to see whether he’s upset about his father passing or believes he got what he deserved. Speaking of Walt, there still hasn’t been any confirmation that he’s dead, so who knows whether we’ll see him in a jail cell or flashbacks.

4. Breaking Bad was a pure, creative masterpiece.

It’s no secret that some shows will milk their series for as long as possible in order to get as much money as possible. That’s not what happened with Breaking Bad. The show could have gone on longer, but it ended after five years. Vince Gilligan and the cast care about quality more than quantity. That means, if they decided to make this movie, it’s bound to be good.

5. It’s on Netflix.

That means you don’t have to go through the trouble of putting on your Los Pollos Hermanos merch, driving down to the movie theater, and lining up for tickets. All you have to do is wait until October 11 arrives, log into your Netflix account, and enjoy the single greatest film of 2019 with a bottle of Dos Hombres mezcal.
