9 Things To Remember When Wedding Planning Makes You Want To Rip Your Hair Out

By

1. You’re getting married because you’re best friends, you love each other, and you want to spend forever together. Even though planning is stressful, you have to remember you’re not getting married to throw a party. You’re getting married to spend eternity together.

2. This wedding is about you and your fiancé. Everyone you invite (and even some outsiders) are going to have opinions on how you should do things, but you don’t have to listen to them. You don’t have to make them happy. This is your wedding. You two have final say.

3. Unfortunately, weddings bring out the worst in people. Some family members might criticize you. Some friends might be jealous of you. The drama might make you wish you eloped and got the wedding over with in ten minutes — but you have to remember the people who really love you and really care about you are going to be there for you. They’re going to support you. They’re going to help you when you need a hand. Anyone who starts problems leading up to the happiest day of your life aren’t worth your energy. People like that are not the kind of people you should keep in your life

4. You don’t have to follow traditions. You don’t have to follow any rules. If there’s a toxic family member you don’t want to invite, don’t invite them. If you would feel weird doing a garter toss, don’t do one. You don’t even have to wear white. You can wear pink. You can wear a pantsuit. You can make your own traditions. It all depends on what you and your fiancé want, what would make you two the most comfortable.

5. You might be the independent type, but you’re allowed to accept help. Wedding planning is stressful, but luckily, a lot of people are going to want to be involved. Take advantage of their offers. Let them suggest bakeries and dress shops. Let them tell you about their friend who does hair and makeup at discounted prices. Let them give you ideas on how to save money and energy and time.

6. You don’t want to become a bridezilla, so make sure you thank the friends and family and vendors who are always there for you. Make sure they know how much you appreciate their support. And make sure you don’t lash out at them when your stress gets the best of you.

7. The little things don’t matter as much as you think. No one is going to notice if the napkins are a slightly different shade of blue than you originally wanted or if the groomsmen are wearing slightly different colored socks. You’re the only one who is going to pay attention to those minor details, so try not to let them bother you too much.

8. Even if you do everything right, there’s still going to be something that goes wrong on your wedding day. It might rain. Someone might get stuck in traffic. Something might get ripped or broken. When that happens, you have to remember your wedding is supposed to be a special day. You’re supposed to have a good time. Don’t stress. Just enjoy the start of your new lives together.

9. Even though a part of you wants your wedding day to arrive so you can get it over with and stop stressing, the actual day is going to go by much faster than you think. Soon, you’re going to be wishing it wasn’t over so quickly.
