When You Love Someone, You Make Sacrifices For Them

When you love someone, you are going to make sacrifices for them, but most of the time you won’t think twice about it. You won’t whine about it. You won’t resent your person because of it.

You might have to sacrifice your free time because their car broke down or because they are crying on the other end of the phone and need you to help them feel better.

You might have to sacrifice your sleep because they are sick with the flu and you know the right thing to do is stay up all night, warming soup up for them and refilling their cold medicine when the hours tick passed.

You might have to sacrifice your holidays with your family because it’s unfair to ask them to spend the entire day with your parents without at least stopping at their parents for a few hours.

You might have to sacrifice your privacy once you decide to live together because you will be sharing a bathroom, sharing a bed, and sharing clothing.

You might have to sacrifice your drunken nights with friends so you can stay home and watch the baby (or the dog or the cat).

You might have to sacrifice your savings so you can buy them a birthday present that makes them feel loved and valued or so you can take them on the vacation they have been hinting at for months.

When you love someone, you sacrifice for them every single day. You turn into someone selfless, someone who cares more about the good of the relationship than about themselves.

However, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice the big things in your world — your friendships, your relationship with your family, your career, your hopes, your dreams. If you are with the right person, then you will not have to choose between loving them and chasing your passions. You will be able to do everything at once.

If someone makes you give up your dreams of living in the countryside or your dreams of becoming a CEO or your dreams of becoming a parent, then they  probably aren’t the right person for you. You should not have to give up everything for them. You should only have to give up little things. The everyday things.

When you are in love, you are going to make sacrifices for your person and your person is going to make sacrifices for you — but you should not let your person make the wrong sacrifices for you. You should not let them ruin their life so they can keep you around. You should not let them give up on everything they have ever wanted because they are blinded by their love for you.

When you are in love, you are going to make sacrifices. If you want totally different things from this life, then you might even have to sacrifice your relationship with them, you might have to fight against your instincts and let them go, so you can both live your best lives. TC mark
