I Honestly Think We Are Going To Stay Together Forever

I think we are going to make it. I think we have what it takes to last a lifetime. Not because our relationship has been perfect, but because it has been imperfect and we made it through every hardship as a team. We are even happier after all of these years than we were in the beginning. Time has strengthened us, not weakened us. That is because whenever we have a problem, we solve it. We don’t let it snowball into an even bigger issue. We don’t give each other the silent treatment until the problem magically goes away. We talk things out. We come to compromises. We are there for each other, even when we would rather be someplace else.

We know each other well. We are not on our best behavior around each other. I have seen you with tears clinging to your cheeks. You have seen me with anger flaring through my eyes. We have seen each other when we were pissed off, when we were sick, when we were in the worst possible mood — and we still held love for each other. Getting to know you better did not make me love you less, it made me love you and appreciate you more.

We are not connected at the hip, but our lives are intertwined. We hang out with shared friends, but we can also spend weekends on our own without asking for permission. We love spending time with each other, but we also spend sufficient time apart. We are two separate individuals with our own lives but we are on the same team.

You are my best friend in the world. Without the sex, without the cuddling and kissing and lingering hugs, I would still want to spend every second of my time with you. I love our conversations. I love our movie sessions. I love the way you look at me. I love everything about you — even the pieces of yourself that you find hard to believe anyone would tolerate, let alone like.

We make sense together. We bring out the best in each other. When I am around you, I want to be a better person. You motivate me to reach my goals. You inspire me to become the best possible version of myself. You are the reason why I have grown to believe in myself as much as I do. You have encouraged my self-love.

I honestly think we are going to stay together forever because we are on the same page about our future. When we imagine our lives together, we see the same picture. I can visualize growing old beside you. I can envision a future where we are as happy as we are right now, right in this moment.

I do not need you to change in order to be happier with you. I love you exactly the way you are right this minute and I am sure I will love the person you grow into as we walk through this world together.
