I’m Not Your Girlfriend

By

You act like you’re my boyfriend, even though you have explicitly told me that you are not interested in a relationship right now. Even though you have made it perfectly clear that we are never going to become an official couple.

If you are serious about staying single, then you should really stop treating me like your girlfriend. You should stop texting me first thing in the morning about how much you miss me. You should stop complimenting me on how pretty I look whenever I post a new Instagram selfie. You should stop getting touchy with me every time we’re in the same room together.

You should stop acting like we are dating when you want nothing to do with a relationship.

It would be easier if you walked away and gave me a chance to get over you. It would even be easier if you treated me like someone you wanted to hook up with and never see again. At least that way, I would know what you wanted from me. It would be less confusing.

Right now, I’m not sure what you expect from me. There are times when you will look at me like you’re falling in love with me. Times when you act like I matter more to you than everybody else. Then there are times when you drop off the face of the planet, ignore my texts, and stop flirting completely. You keep pulling me close and then pushing me away. You’re always going back and forth. You don’t make any sense.

I’m not your girlfriend so don’t expect me to stay loyal. Don’t get mad at me when I start talking to other guys. Don’t act like I am doing something wrong when I copy your behavior.

You look like a hypocrite every time you get pissed off at me for giving you a taste of your own medicine. If you’re allowed to talk to other people, then so am I. If you’re allowed to take days to answer a text, then so am I.

I’m not actively trying to treat you like crap because I know how horrible that feels. I’m just not going to treat you like a priority when you have made me a backup plan. I’m not going to chase after you.

I’m not going to keep trying to make you my boyfriend when you have already warned me that you are not interested in relationships.

You’re not my boyfriend so I’m not going to treat you like one. I’m not going to let myself grow attached to you when you have already told me the way things are going to end. According to you, we are never going to get together. So I don’t understand the point of your good morning texts and lingering hugs and kisses on the cheek.

You treat me like more than a friend. You treat me like someone you want to date. And I wish you would cut it out because I don’t need you breaking my heart.
