You’re Allowed To Have Bad Days (Even When You’re Happier Than You’ve Ever Been Before)

By

You are allowed to have bad days, even when you’re in a good place in life.

Even if you’re happy overall, there will still be days when you need to lock your bedroom door and cry.

Even if you wouldn’t change a thing about your life, there will still be days when you can’t handle the stress.

When those days arrive, you are allowed to complain about your job or your person or your parents, even though things are better now than they have ever been for you before.

It doesn’t make you ungrateful to whine a little, to get your grievances off of your chest. It makes you human.

You are allowed to have bad days, even though you’re older now and more mature.

You are allowed to get wasted, text someone you shouldn’t have texted, and be embarrassed about it the next day.

You are allowed to cancel on your friends because you don’t have the energy to get out of bed and fake smiles around them for four hours.

You are allowed to use one of your sick days to skip work when you don’t have what it takes to be productive that day.

You are allowed to fuck up and feel like an idiot for doing something so stupid.

You are allowed to make mistakes and then apologize over them.

You are imperfect. You are human. You are bound to do things that you regret once you see the consequences. And that is okay. That is normal.

You are not going to have enough energy to do your best every single day.

There are going to be some days when you are in the mood to socialize and end up making all of your friends laugh over dinner. There are going to be other days when you sit at the table in silence because you are too anxious to open your mouth.

There are going to be some days when you impress your boss with your work ethic and other days when you get in trouble for making an error that you never should have made.

There are going to be some days when you impress yourself with how far you’ve come and other days when you embarrass yourself with how much you’ve messed up.

You have to remember: Just because you had one bad day does not mean you are taking a step back in life. Some days will be more productive than others. Some days will be easier than others.

Even if you feel like a failure today, you might feel like a success story tomorrow, because you are always changing. You are always growing. You are always bettering yourself.

Even if you make an unforgivable mistake, you should be proud of yourself for acknowledging what you’ve done. For admitting you were wrong. For dealing with it in a mature way. For noticing there was a problem and promising to make a change in the future.

It’s impossible to make it through the year without looking like a complete idiot at least once or twice, so give yourself a break.

You are allowed to have bad days. You are allowed to make mistakes. You are allowed to admit you’re imperfect.
