This Is Why Insecure Girls Stay Single For Such A Long Time

She hasn’t stayed single for this long because she’s unattractive or unappealing. She hasn’t stayed single for this long because she has nothing to offer, because no one wants her around, because she would make a horrible girlfriend.

She has only stayed single, because she has a hard time believing that anybody would want to date her. Every time a boy shows interest, she assumes that she is reading the signs all wrong. That he couldn’t possibly like her when there are a million other girls out there just as pretty and smart and fascinating as her.

She can’t picture anyone falling asleep to thoughts of her, boasting about her to their friends, or getting butterflies when her name pops up on their phone. She can’t imagine someone falling for her.

She has stayed single, because she stops herself before she falls too hard for someone. Instead of talking to him and seeing where the relationship leads, she tells herself that she doesn’t have a chance with him, that she shouldn’t waste her time. She is her own worst enemy.

She has stayed single, because she doesn’t want to get disappointed again. She has liked so many boys throughout her life that haven’t felt the same way, and she doesn’t want to go through that again. She doesn’t want to get her hopes up and then have them yanked down with rejection.

She has stayed single, because she is terrified of being abandoned. She doesn’t want to fall for someone, let them into her life, and then watch them walk away. She doesn’t want to get hurt by someone else — so she hurts herself by refusing to put herself out there.

She has stayed single, because even though she may not be happy that way, she is comfortable that way. She is used to falling asleep in her own bed. She is used to doing things by herself. She is used to the string of loneliness.

She has stayed single, because she has no faith in herself. Her confidence has dipped as low as it can go. She hates the girl she sees in the mirror instead of acknowledging how beautiful she is. She takes every chance to criticize herself and never compliments herself.

She has stayed single, because she can’t see her worth — so it is impossible for her to understand why anyone would want to be with her. Whenever someone flirts with her, she assumes that they must be using her for something. That they must only want her for one night.

She has stayed single, because she has convinced herself that she is meant to be alone. That she is never going to find anyone who understands her. That she is destined to stay this way.

She has stayed single, because she believes the lies her mind keeps telling her over the truth in front of her.

And the truth is that she’s beautiful. She’s brilliant. She’s breathtaking. And any boy would be lucky to end her single streak. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
