19 People Talk About Their Ridiculously Incompetent Coworkers And Wonder How The Hell They Were Hired

14. I worked with this guy who would fall asleep constantly (and he snored). It was one thing when he did it alone in his cube, but it was a whole different ballgame when he did it during client meetings.

Most of the folks at that place were hopeless with the computer. Sleeping guy used to have eleventy versions of documents saved in various locations on his hard drive, and he was miserable at keeping track of which one was current. To complicate matters, he’d email documents back and forth, generating lots of new versions.

Another lady was running out of hard drive space, so she went into C:\Windows and started deleting stuff out of there. “Oh, all those DLLs? I don’t even know what those are, I’m just going to delete them!” I laughed when her PC quit working.

Yet another guy was proud of his Excel prowess…and then I saw what he was actually doing. He had out a pencil and paper and a calculator, and he’d laboriously do all the calculations, then enter the result into the spreadsheet. When I showed him that you could put the formulas RIGHT THERE into the spreadsheet, I thought his head would explode. After that, he asked me to do all his spreadsheets for him (I said no).

Then there was the brainiac who was setting up his desktop, and for some reason, the monitor driver allowed him to set the contrast and brightness on his display all the way to black…which he did…and then he couldn’t see to undo it. So, he restarted in Safe Mode, opened up the Control Panel, and started putting Post-Its all over the monitor to mark where all the windows and buttons were…so he could somehow try to go back and undo everything. I shit you not.

15. I work as a Personal Support Worker and in my last job, I worked with some of the most lazy, stupid, incompetent people that could possibly exist and actually be able to make a living outside of fast food. Getting hired is easy because of the shortage of PSW’s, but how they made it past probation is beyond me.

They abused their power and bullied the residents of our group home (who were physically and intellectually challenged).

They would spend hours sleeping on the couch in the living room. They couldn’t cook, broke things, lost things, ruined loads of laundry, either couldn’t or wouldn’t clean anything properly, and refused to provide proper personal care.

It drove me fucking crazy and I burned myself out trying to do all the work and give our clients some half-decent care. Reporting them to the supervisor had no effect because while they were incompetent, she was oblivious as long as they kissed her ass and agreed with everything she said.

She would tell them to do something and the moment she was out of earshot would laugh about how there’s no way they were doing that. And yet they stayed on. I had to quit to keep from losing my mind and hurting someone. I did an exit interview with the HR manager but as of right now, nothing has changed. Arrrgggghhhh!
