How To Use The Law Of Attraction To Get What You Really Want In Life

By

I’d like to be a writer. Just to see my name in print would be enough. I’ll often flick through a newspaper and imagine my name at the bottom of an article. Naively, I believe that this accomplishment will bring me great joy. There is a long way to go, I know. But that’s OK, I’m just happy to be in the process. I don’t write for money or for recognition, though I cannot lie and say that it doesn’t appeal to me.

I write because I enjoy it. I don’t enjoy it in the sense that it is like a fantastic roller coaster. I am not in a state of elation when I write. It is a brutal struggle sometimes; much of what I write never gets published. However, when I write I am calm, I can think clearly and I am smiling, only subtly perhaps but, I am happy.

There are many people like me — people who are wondering which direction to put their first foot forward. But, what have I learnt from those who have already walked miles along their journey?

Well, they all seem to advocate the law of attraction. Most never explicitly refer to it as the ‘law of attraction’ but they all describe something similar.

What is the law of attraction?

It is the idea that you attract whatever you attach emotions to. Believing your future to be happy, you will attract happy energy into your present life. Because, the world will respond in the same way that you respond to it. This means that the world is your reflection. You are able to choose what is that you see on the other side of the mirror.

If you think that your life is a tragedy, you will carry the appearance of tragedy with you. Your shoulders will roll forward, your head will bow towards the ground and your eyes will appear motionless and sad. Your unhappy posture, a protest of your internal world, is presented to your external world. The outside world will respond with the same miserable and depressed defiance because the world is your mirror and whatever you choose to do in front of it, it will retaliate with exactly the same manner.

Similarly, if you want to make something of yourself you have to act as if you already have what it is that you want. For instance, if you are struggling with shyness and want to be more confident then you have to act as if you are confident. You must tell yourself that you are good enough, that people will love you for who you are.

If you don’t believe you are adequate then you’re posture and manner will amplify this insecurity to the world and it will treat you the way you see yourself. Your fear of social interaction will manifest itself as others recognise your anxiety.

“Whatever you hold in your mind on a consistent basis is exactly what you will experience in your life.” — Tony Robbins

Close your eyes, visual the person you want to be. Imagine yourself walking into a room full of people you do not know. You are smiling, your chest and shoulders are pointed to the sky; you are ready to take on the world. The people immediately notice your poise, they smile back with admiring eyes and approach you with open arms.

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” — Albert Einstein

Now, with this vision of yourself, take action. Start creating, writing, painting… whatever it is that you must do, do it. Visualisation is only one side of the coin. You must act.

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” — Winston Churchill

Visualisation and action is much easier when you know what it is that you want to do. What makes you itch? Or, in the words of Alan Watts, ‘if money were no object, what is it that you would do?’ If your decided purpose aligns with your true nature, then there is nothing stopping you becoming who you want to be other than your attitude.

Life will bring many reasons to drag you down. This means that life is about how able you are to ride the waves and climb the mountains.

So, don’t make excuses. You are not a victim. You may suffer from profound disadvantages and there may be prejudice against you, but you cannot afford to tell yourself that you are a victim. If you willingly undermine yourself to the definition in the dictionary, you will lose yourself and never become the person you could be.

This had been a gradual learning curve for me over the past couple of years. I have tried to gradually introduce these practices into my life, but I know, as with everything, that it will take time.

I will continue to imagine my name in print. Hopefully one day I will come to realise it.
