11 Things We Heard As Kids That’s Exactly What We Need To Hear In Our 20s

In memory of the countless hours we spent watching our favorite movies or reading our favorite books as children and the innocence that we lost along the way, here’s one way to get something more out of the things we love. Keep going back to basics, you’ll always find something new to apply to your today!

1. “I act scary, Mike. But most of the time, I’m terrified.” — Sulley, Monsters Inc.

Remember that it’s okay to be scared. Also keep in mind that sometimes people aren’t who they show you they are.

2. “There’s no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going.” — Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Whatever we do, we’re most likely going in blind. Most times there’s no way of knowing whether what we’re doing is going to take us to the place we want to go. Might as well do what it is that you really want to do, you’ve got nothing to loose.

3. “It’s like the smarter you are, the more things can scare you.” — Katherine Patterson, Bridge To Terabithia.

Knowledge is the most beautiful thing in the world, but it’s good to remember that sometimes what we don’t know is actually helping us. It’s okay not to know everything, it’s okay to let yourself forget the things that keep you up at night.

4. ”I look at you, and I… and I’m home. Please… I don’t want that to go away. I don’t want to forget.” — Dory, Finding Nemo.

Home is a feeling, don’t you think? It can be given to you by a place, by a person, by a building, or by an experience. Whatever make you feel like you’re at home, a place where you’re at peace with everyone, yourself included and a place which makes you feel safe don’t ever let it go. Ever.

5. “Only a true friend would be that truly honest.” — Donkey, Shrek.

Honesty is key. Simple.

6. “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” — Sirius Black, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Oh Sirius! Who better to explain to us that everyone is worthwhile. We are all equals, whether or not we have allowed ourselves to thinks so, we all deserve the same love, respect and hope.

7. “Because she could not go near all these things, she longed for them all the more.” — Hans Christian Anderson, The Little Mermaid.

I couldn’t agree more. Remember that sometimes, the more you want something, the less you’ll appreciate it when you actually have it. Sometimes we crave the chase and not the goal. Also remember that sometimes the things we long for, aren’t ours for a reason. Maybe they aren’t meant to be or maybe we’re just better off without them.

8. “For some moments in life, There are no words” — Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Beautiful. How I wish we could all learn to appreciate the little things, and find joy in the things that make us laugh that little bit harder, or smile that little bit wider.

9. “You are more than what you have become.” — Mufasa, The Lion King.

It’s okay to loose your path along the way, everything we do gives us the option of choosing to be more like what we have learnt or less of it.

10. “It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.”— Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

It’s good to read something and feel understood. To feel like you aren’t alone in the world. To feel like it’s okay to be scared of the things you don’t know. It’s okay.

11. “When life gets you down do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do? Just keep swimming.” — Dory, Finding Nemo.

Last and most definitely not least, never. ever. give up. You’ve only got a lifetime to do the things you want to do and that is most certainly NOT enough.
