I’m Not Like 99.9% Of 20-Somethings. Are You?

By

If you’re like approximately 99.99% of 20-somethings, you’re looking for ways to save time. During the day it might be a mad dash across city blocks from class to work to Trader Joe’s for some insta-dinner you wish you had time to learn to cook. And at night, yawning morning hours approach exponentially faster than that cute guy or girl at the bar. What gives?

If you’re like 99.99% of 20-somethings, finding someone who does give a damn could take up a lot of your time, if you let it. Friends, hookups, relationships that fall into gray areas… but we’re only human, right? Our hands can only clasp so many hours. So I’m going to save you some of that precious time, with a little truth. Sometimes, it’s like this: no one wants to need you.

Be straight with me, no one really wants to slip an arm around your shoulders after a rough day. No one’s really going to hear your needs when they know that you want them in a different way. One and done, gratification no nonsense really just stop talking let’s… you know. Isn’t it all instant, insta-gram, insta-hookup everyone’s talking about? Let me see your Tindr matches.

If you’re like 99.99% of 20-somethings, you want to take a break, at least sometimes. But that time you’re looking for? You take it up, so quick, and who wants to take some time with you? That OKCupid hottie? No, not that one, not that kind of time.

I’ve got a dirty little secret, one that I’m afraid to tell: it’s me. I want to need you. I want to need someone, and I’m quite overwhelmed by what seems like the majority telling me to look elsewhere. It is how it is, you’re cute, you’ll find someone. If it’s that easy, can I get a show of hands? Who wants to need me? Should I walk around wearing a sign?

If you’re like 99.99% of 20-somethings, things are a little more complicated. If you’re like 99.99% of 20-somethings, you’re hoping that, even if it’s not today, someone will want to need you and you’ll want to need them. And if you’re like me, if you’re really ready for that day, you’re wondering how to make it come faster, despite all of the “insta” in the way.
