5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Started College

By

1. It’s okay to abandon everything.

Leaving your home for the first time to attend college can become very stressful and incredibly emotional. Realizing you have made mistakes in your past and wanting to fix them is okay (even if that means abandoning everything you’ve come to know). Fix yourself, and create a person that you want to become for the rest of your life.

2. Support your friends.

Not everyone is lucky enough to go to school with their best friends, yet we are fortunate too have the type of technology that allows us to not lose touch. Call your friends. Make sure they are okay. Support the decisions they choose to make, right or wrong, and stick with them always.

3. Don’t settle for less than what you truly deserve.

It took me a very long time to realize that you do not owe anybody anything, regardless of who they are. You have one job; to become educated, do not let anyone stand in the way of that. You deserve the universe. You were put on this Earth to achieve greatness. Do not settle for less.

4. Struggling is normal.

You’re entering a world that you have never been apart of before, and that world is very different in every single aspect. Do not become discouraged just simply ask for help. You are not alone and you never will be.

5. Invest.

Invest in everything you have. Time, money, energy…everything. You only get to live one life and that life needs to be nothing less than spectacular. Every choice you make will affect you for the rest of your life. Make every action valuable of your time. Invest in your life, and make it a good one.
