As a fellow “20-something”, I realize this period of life can be exciting, confusing, and challenging. Although this time of your life may be nothing short of a roller coaster ride, many describe their twenties as the some of the best times of their life. Here are the best parts about being a 20-something.
1. The World is Your Oyster
You’re a 20-something! You’re young. You have time to figure out your dreams. You can do whatever you put your mind to. The world is an exciting place for 20-somethings. If you don’t like what you’re doing, or you don’t know what you enjoy doing, you have time to go out, explore and figure things out.
Whether you’re a recent graduate or you’ve been working for quite some time, your twenties are your years of discovery. Whether it be figuring out hobbies, interests, or friends, this is a time where you’re developing your identity. And the best part of this journey is that it’s a shared feeling amongst all 20-somethings.
When I mention independence, I’m really defining many different kinds. Financial independence, emotional independence and living on your own. Feeling self-sufficient and living your life independently are some of the best parts of being a 20-something.
Yes, confusion. Being a 20-something not only means you’re learning and growing on your own. It’s also a period of confusion in a variety of things in life. Confusion is a good thing though. Confusion helps us to develop our opinions, likes, dislikes, personality and so much more. Confusion helps us to evolve.
5. Taking Risks
What makes life so exciting is the unpredictability of it all. Picking up and moving across the country is more common for 20-somethings. 20-somethings are keen on taking risks and exploring the unknown. Who knows where our next chapter will take us?! 20-somethings seek adventure.
Our youth is something we’ll never be able to get back. Unlike others on this list, youth is something that won’t last forever. Say yes, seek adventures, go outside of your comfort zone, enjoy the perks of being young. It certainly won’t last forever.
Being a 20-something inevitably means you’ll run into periods of time that you feel unsure or even isolated. It also means that you’re still looking for support, advice and/or guidance your family, friends, coworkers, or people you admire. As someone in your twenties, realize that when you need to seek support, there are so many people who care about you and want to help.
Being a 20-something is a wild ride. And while it comes with a big dose of confusion, it comes with so many rewards. Your twenties are a time for exploration, discovery, adventure, love. It’s an exciting time that revolves around you—so make it count!
