An Open Letter To Trump About The Paris Climate Accord

By

Dear Mr. Trump,

Today, I was greeted with the unfortunate sight that you have made the woeful decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord. In this regrettable decision, you have decided to turn your back on an important, threatening, and dangerous issue, instead deciding to focus on your typical nationalistic and close-minded agenda. I regret to inform you, Mr. Trump, that climate change is not only real, but it is also dangerous and has the potential to not only kill mankind but a vast number of other species with us.

In your closed-minded and dangerous belief that climate change is not a pressing issue, you ignore a large amount of scientific research to instead decide to focus solely on the economy. While the economy is important, I would by no means place it above the possible extinction of countless species. Do you not care about the people of the Republic of Maldives, the people of the Republic of Kiribati, or countless other peoples threatened by an issue that you refuse to fix? You stated that you wished to “Make America Great Again.” Yet you fail to realize that the greatness of country comes not from an economy, or a military, but from the goodness and kindness that is radiated. Your decision to leave the accord is a decision that goes against every possible moral. You would place a small dip in the economy above the homes and lives of millions of people and species.

This is our planet. This is our home. We do not have another one! There is no Planet B! We must either learn to fight for our mother or we risk the shame and disappointment of our future generations. Today, you have brought shame to the United States and have put shame in the eyes of our future generations. You have spit in the face of our Mother… Our home. Thus, I plead with you, do what you can to save our planet.

This is our home and trusts me when I tell you, there is no place like home.

Sincerely Yours,

Erik Bodien
