You Are Forgetting That This Heart Can Hunt For Herself

By

Do not ask me to rein in my heart just because she has roamed onto your terrain

I have no intention of quieting her call just because her voice
makes it hard
for caged hearts
to find sleep
Don’t you know?
when a wild heart has been captured it keeps watch on the horizon all-ways

Didn’t they tell you?
no matter the distance you create the wild heart will still beat to the rhythm of thunder
and still swell with each crash of the sea?

So do not ask my heart to feign submission just to keep your gatekeepers at ease and do not expect her to come running when you offer leftovers through bars meant to keep her out

Do not beckon her close just so you can watch her dance in the moonlight and hear dreams that she whispers to the stars
You are forgetting that this heart can hunt for herself
You are forgetting that the stars guide her way just as much as they once guided yours
Have you also forgotten that the stars in her map match the ones in your eyes?
So do not ask me to rein in my heart just because she has roamed onto your terrain

For in this world of wild and free hearts there is no need to make ourselves small
Only the will enough to jump the fence and return to who we are.
