People Is Renaming The ‘Most Beautiful’ Issue To Be More Inclusive

People

People magazine’s iconic “Most Beautiful” issue has been running since 1990. The headline has been tweaked slightly over the years from “World’s Most Beautiful” to “50 Most Beautiful” but it’s always pretty clearly been about praising whatever traditionally beautiful celebrity is popular at the time.

Today they announced that they will change the name to “The Beautiful Issue.” Their goal is “to make clear that the issue is not a beauty contest.”

In their announcement, People said “Nothing else has changed. As always it will feature beautiful women (and a few men) of all shapes, sizes and colors, and it will celebrate the most beautiful qualities of all: strength, humanity and artistry.”

As for the woman they’ve chosen to grace the cover of “The Beautiful Issue” it sounds pretty much like a celebrity they’d choose to cover the old version (or any other issue of the weekly pub): “The cover of The Beautiful Issue 2018 โ€” which will be unveiled on Wednesday โ€” will be a woman who checks all those boxes. Sheโ€™s a performer, mother and role model whose honesty, humor, confidence and sheer star power make her one of the most beloved and fascinating entertainers on the planet.”

Whether they are going to use the change to highlight a more diverse group of people, or whether they are just saying something that sounds good is something we’ll find out on Wednesday when the issue comes out. TC mark
