Live Your Life One Day At A Time

Live your life one day at a time.

It’s a message my grandfather who lived to be 98 years old used to relay to me as a child. Live each day as if it’s your last. Live in the present moment.

It’s advice that has helped me get through some rough times on my journey in which I wasn’t feeling particularly stable. Some days, I didn’t know where I’d get my next meal or where I’d be sleeping that night. I am lucky enough that those kinds of days have been far and few between, and what has helped me is to really take his advice to heart. Sometimes you have to live your life minute by minute in order to set up the foundations for your highest good. But taking things in stride is the best way to do it.

When we live life one day at a time—not with one foot 5 steps ahead into the future and the other 10 years back in the past—we live from a place of authenticity in which we are centered in our heart. I always tell people I know my grandfather lived to be 98 for a reason. It was because he was very wise. When he died, it wasn’t due to being in poor health. It was simply due to a fall which his frail body was unable to recover from. He was still exercising every day and was mentally as sharp as ever. It was almost as if he decided to leave the Earth when he did.

On the current path I am on, I continue to live one day at a time. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has allowed me the most room to grow and room to be the happiest I have ever been. In the past, I planned and lived according to a plan which never actually manifested into reality. You might have had a plan at one point in time that no longer serves your best interest where you are right now. All we have is the present moment. It is where the truth resides.

How you are feeling and what you are doing right now is going to lead you in the direction you need to go. Don’t try to overthink things too much—that will only cause you to live in fear and anxiety. Allow yourself to be guided by your intuition, that inner voice that doesn’t always make sense from a logical perspective but it can be just as powerful as logic at times.
