5 Energizing Songs To Pump You Up Before Your Interview, And Possibly Get You The Job

By

I feel like our entire lives are centered around planning for an interview. Whether it’s for an internship, job, a relationship (LOLZ, THE PROFESSION OF LOVE) we all have to handle the pre-jitters that comes about when we’re en route to talk to someone one-on-one. While I can’t help you with the inevitable sweating and awkward phrase you’ll say to them while making small talk (for example, “Nice walls, I love brown. I mean bricks. Brown bricks!” – just off the top of my head) what I can give to you, however, is a surefire way to be as pumped as possible before you walk into the lobby.

1. Let Me Be Your Star by SMASH

Does anyone remember SMASH? Anyone? No, well that’s what I’m here for. While the show may have been insane, I loved every minute of it—especially this song. Like, after all, don’t we all just want to be someone’s star? This is perfect to play while you’re finishing getting ready and walking out the door because it gives you a little determination in your step.

2. Got To Be Real by Cheryll Lynn

Full disclosure, this song will probably be on any list I make in regards to making a playlist. It’s just SO GOOD. And instantly boosts your mood and confidence. I’ve referenced before and I’ll reference again, Carrie Bradshaw walked/fell/got up on a runway to this song. Need I say more?

3. I’m The Best by Nicki Minaj

Kind of self-explanatory. Because sure, maybe once you get to the interview you realize they are just looking for grad school applicants, or they list seven programs their office uses that you didn’t even know existed, but all of that is trivial. Who cares if you don’t know what Cision is, you’re the best. There is no one better to get you feeling great about yourself than Nicki Minaj—and I feel like if I ever could get a letter of reference from her, it would not only be so sweet, but also full of just so many amazing puns.

4. Unapologetic Bitch by Madonna

First of all, why isn’t everyone talking about Madonna’s new album? #MadonnaNeverLeft. Secondly, this song is great for that time when you’re just a few blocks away from your meeting place (or if you’re one of those people who can actually do Skype interviews and trust yourself to wear pants while in your home, like ten minutes before that starts). Not only does it have a great beat but a great message! Yeah!! You’re an unapologetic bitch, and you’re gonna be like THE best sales intern there ever was!!

5. Flawless (Remix, duh) by Beyonce with Nicki Minaj

Of course Nicki is on this list twice. She should be on every list twice, all the time. But I suggest listening to this song while in the elevator up to your floor AND immediately after your interview because even if it went terribly, you’ll still feel like you killed it. I swear to God I feel at least ten pounds thinner while listening to this song, which is such a great boost to walk into an interview with.

And no, I’m not fat shaming. It just makes me feel like my pants don’t totally look like they’re made from stretchy material. This duet is DEADLY, because if there ever was a hybrid of two singers that would make the best employee it would for sure be Nicki and Bey. You get that smooth intro and then going right into that rap remix. Just place don’t slap any hoes on their ass until AFTER Human Resources understands your ‘personal brand.’ Now, go get hired.
