When Is It Okay To Call A Woman A Whore?

By

Let me get this out of the way right up front. Kim Davis, County Clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky is breaking the law and blocking the legal issuance of marriage licenses for same sex couples. She’s doing all this out of a sort of half-assed dedication to faith which apparently requires her to oppose the rule of law but not to resign from her position in moral protest. The reasoning that the world should orbit around her and her beliefs on the job are small-minded and selfish. Quit your job in protest, Kim, if it means this much to you.

A lot of people are laughing about it but the video is brutal. Mrs. Davis is clearly a woman totally unprepared for what she’s facing and who has, at best, a less than elementary understanding of the secular laws that rule the United States. The frustration of the man in the front who speaks the most is completely understandable. He is paying her to impede his rights. She does work for everyone in the county and he and his partner have every right to receive their marriage license and go on their way in peace without the hassle of this woman’s crisis of conscience ruining their day. She is in the wrong for easily understood reasons.

Here’s what she had to say about the idea of stepping down.

“I would have to either make a decision to stand or I would have to buckle down and leave,” she said, pondering her choices. “And if I left, resigned or chose to retire, I would have no voice for God’s word.

That’s just silly and painfully self-righteous. In a civilized world among civilized people she would have resigned immediately or sublimated her beliefs and swallowed her pride…but money. She’s paid money for that job. She may well need that money and the retirement that comes with it, Rowan County only has 23,000 people in it and it’s not a hotbed of growth and industry so here we are. But things aren’t going well for her. The courts have repeatedly declined to grant her a stay on the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples. This isn’t going to change. Either she’s going to change or she’s going to get removed and then all the people wanting to legally marry will marry anyway. (EDIT: She’s in jail now).

And since this is all a foregone conclusion, that brings us to what the media thinks about the revelation that Mrs. Davis committed adultery in the past and had a bunch of kids out of wedlock. Here’s the general take on it.

Is anyone under the misapprehension that this means anything besides “hypocritical whore?” According to ThinkProgress, Davis became religious about four years ago, after she committed adultery, divorced three times, and had kids out of wedlock but in a very weird turnabout she’s being called a hypocrite for adhering to the notion of marriage being between a man and a woman. It’s a weird turnabout because she became religious after she did these things, not before.

Still, people on the Left are calling her a whore for divorcing multiple times, committing adultery, and having kids out of wedlock. That’s interesting. Hmm, where have I heard this rhetoric before?

Anyone who thinks Liberals and Conservatives are morally distinct should think again. People are terrible all over and they’ll say whatever suits them at any given moment without any fear of being logically or morally inconsistent. Are you a Liberal woman? Believe in female autonomy and the right to divorce and have kids whenever you want? That’s fine, unless you do something other Liberal people don’t like. Then you’re a whore. Now that is hypocrisy.

And what about all these divorces, etc? How are they relevant? What’s with all the judgement? Men and women make mistakes and make choices for their own lives, right? But it’s only women that are slut shamed for it, it seems. Kim Davis sounds like she’s had a rocky past full of questionable decisions and who knows what else. So?

She became super religious after she had all these divorces, not during them. Has she committed adultery or divorced since she became super religious because if she hasn’t then she’s not a hypocrite at all. Since when does making mistakes, even repeated mistakes, then straightening your life out mean that people don’t get to have beliefs anymore? If I cheated on someone then tried to do right from then on does that mean I’m no longer able to believe that anything is wrong?

The irony here is thick and people on the Left should remember this the next time the Right saddles some woman with the label “whore.” It’s permissible to call a woman a whore when you disagree with her.
