Why It’s Never Easy To Meet ‘The One’ When You’re Young

He’s the one you want to spend the rest of your days with, because you never know how many you’re given.

He’s the one you want to raise a family with, because you know he’ll make an amazing father one day.

He’s the one you want to transform a house into a home with, because they always told you, “Home is where the heart is.”

He’s the one you want to fall asleep next to every night, because when you feel safe you sleep soundly.

He’s the one you never want to say goodbye to, but unfortunately, goodbyes are far too familiar when you’re young.

Here you are, you’ve found the one you want to complete your bucket list with. You can see a future with him, even if you know it makes you appear gullible. Your heart feels at peace when he’s near, yet you prepare yourself for his departure anyways.

It’s never easy to meet him while you’re young, because saying hello so soon often means saying goodbye before you’re ready.

So often we have to accept that life just happens as it does, without having much control over the circumstances or outcomes.

Day after day I’m reminded I’ve found the one that I’m not ready to let go of. He is the one I want to spend my life with. All too often though, we are forced to go on living without the ones we feel the most connected to.

I am constantly preparing for the day he will no longer be traveling the same path that I am now. It is always an all or nothing gamble when you find yourself loving someone while you’re young. There are very heartbreaking statistics, the reality of those who end up together from a fragile age.

As I continue this path with his hand in mine, I will be grateful for each day I am able to spend by his side. There is only one way to find out if I’ll be looking towards him, down the aisle, one day. Each day until then will remind me to be conscious of the blessings that surround me, rather than taking them for granted.

My heart breaks knowing the likelihood of seeing the same boy I’ve fallen in love, turn into the man I share my home with one day. The odds are defeating, so for now, I’ll love him while I have him near.

If one day I find myself reminiscing upon who I was when I was with him, I’ll be grateful for knowing him beyond what meets the eye. He’s a force to be reckoned with, that much I know.

If I am not the bride he sees walking down the aisle towards him, I’ll wish him the best and all the love in the world. I’ll smile knowing that at one time I had the opportunity to love him, too. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
