Read This When You’re Just Sick And Tired Of Being ‘The Sad One’

If you’ve been labeled ‘The Sad One’, by friends, family, or even yourself—let me tell you now, I get it. I have walked in your shoes a thousand miles. I have helped to beat the path you walk today, and here is something exciting to note: the end of this path is beautiful and freeing. It is more than you have ever imagined. It is the freedom of happiness.

Remember this: there is nothing wrong with being ‘The Sad One’. Sadness is an emotion we all experience, although you may be experiencing it on a higher level. Sadness is something we need to go through in life, and it is okay to be sad.

Sadness is not inherently a bad thing. ‘The Sad One’ is often more analytical, more creative, and more introspective. I know the most creative times for my writing have been in the pits of my depression. Sadness is also known to improve your memory. I’m not sure if any of this helps you when you’re feeling so low, but it’s the truth.

There are a multitude of reasons why you could be feeling sad. Think about this reason and reflect on it. Ask yourself—is this worth my time? Is this worth the energy? If yes, what can I do to resolve this? Start by taking the little steps, one at a time. Slow and steady wins the race, they say.

You are a complex soul. You are multidimensional and layered. There is so much more to you than your sadness. Remember all the good things about yourself. Make a list. Positive attributes, hobbies, friends, tv shows you enjoy, etc. All the things that make you you. Remind yourself that at the end of the day you are a person, plain and simple. A person is more than just an emotion, like said before, they are layered.

Sadness and depression are two different things, you must remember. If you are feeling sad for no reason, for an extended period of time, or are experiencing the many other symptoms of depression, you may want to see your doctor. If you go untreated, things will only continue to get worse. You must find a way to rid yourself of this. Please reach out for help if you believe you’ve crossed the line from sad to depressed. There is nothing wrong with getting help, absolutely nothing. You have a right to happiness and wellness. If you’re sick, you get treatment. You shouldn’t discredit your brain just because it’s under the weather.

It’s important to put it out there that happiness is not always a choice. It is not always an option for someone struggling. The option that is a choice is treatment. Treatment is an irrefutable way to reach wellness. It may take some time, but happiness is out there.

The road is a long and winding journey. You will fall time and time again, an unfortunate truth that is set in stone. However, in the end, you will stand up tall and firm. You will gain knowledge that no one unfamiliar to your situation has. You will gain wisdom and fearlessness. ‘The Sad One’ is not ‘The Bad One’, they are ‘The Resilient One’, ‘The Brave One’, and ‘The Unstoppable One’.

Know that no setback is too far from your journey. Remember that help is around the corner. I know that there is hope for a tomorrow because I have lived it myself. I have seen the sun when all I’d known were rain clouds. I have watched the sea part just for me so I could reach the other side. Believe in hope, believe in treatment, and most of all, believe in yourself. ‘The Sad One’, my dear, is a beautiful one.
