It’s Official: A Hocus Pocus Sequel Is Happening With The Original Cast

By

It’s like a 90’s fever dream in the middle of a very bad year. This Halloween week just got even better with the official announcement that fans will get the Hocus Pocus sequel they’ve been waiting over two decades for.

The 1993 (mostly) family-friendly horror comedy was a sleeper hit. Originally panned by critics and not a commercial success, the years have been extremely kind to Hocus Pocus. Millennials who grew up watching the movie on the Disney channel turned it into a yearly ritual, no Halloween was complete without a Hocus Pocus viewing. It is now considered a cult classic.

Now, Disney+ and Bette Midler have confirmed that a sequel to the original story is happening. All the original Sanderson are returning: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. No details yet as to what the story will be or whether the characters of Max, Dani, and Alison will return or whether we will be treated to another immortal cat character now that Thackery Binx has been released from his curse.

For those superfans who can’t wait, the trio will also be reuniting this Friday for a “virtual Hocus Pocus reunion” open to the public. The event will be hosted by Elvira and also promises cameos by Glenn Close, Billy Crystal, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Debney, Samantha Diaz, Todrick Hall, Jennifer Hudson, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Michael Kors, Adam Lambert, George Lopez, Alex Moffat, Vinessa Shaw, Martin Short, Sarah Silverman, John Stamos, Meryl Streep, Kenan Thompson, Sophie von Haselberg, and other “surprise guests”. The project will benefit the New York Restoration Project which was founded by Midler (and tickets are available here).

Hocus Pocus is also available to rent on Prime or stream on Disney+.
