An Open Letter To My Future Partner

By

To my future man,

Maybe you’re with somebody else right now, maybe you’re unrequitedly in love with a close friend of yours, or maybe you’re also waiting for your special someone to come – maybe you’re waiting for me, too.

You have no idea how much I have anticipated your arrival, I’ve been waiting for so long. Although, I just want you to know some reminders before you finally invest your time and emotions with me.

First, I feel too much. I will love you until my last breath, no one will ever come across, and I will let you feel like the king that you are. I’m clingy because I crave for you so much – not in a sexual way but because your presence is like a drug that I am addicted to. And when I say “I love you,” it actually means “’Til death do us part.”

Second, please trust that going out with my friends doesn’t mean I’ll be looking for hot guys to replace you; that wearing sexy clothes doesn’t mean I want other men to notice me, that not abiding with all your demands doesn’t mean I don’t care about your feelings anymore – no, it’s not like that. I want you to make me feel like I can be comfortable with anything I want to be, I want you to know that your approval is the most important thing to me, and I want your trust – that I can manage myself, because you believe that I am a strong, independent woman whose heart is yours only.

Third, don’t get me wrong but I don’t want you to prioritize me. You have your own world before you met me, you have your family, friends, dreams, and goals – I don’t want you to get confined with the idea of ‘us’ when in fact, we can be a ‘we’. You can take me to your world, I’ll take you to mine, and together with all the important people in our lives, we’ll have a bigger world full of love and care – because we are a family – yours and mine, unified and amalgamated, with no one being left behind. You shouldn’t sacrifice relationships just because you already have me, but rather let me become acquainted with them, too, so I can know you more from their stories, and I’ll let you do the same.

Fourth, be honest with me. Tell me anything – I can listen to every rant, every concern, every good and bad day you had at work, or just the little things. Communication is the key to a healthy relationship. And as long as we have each other, expect that you will have no boring days because you already have me – I will be with you in every endeavor, every trial, and every blessing that we’ll encounter. We’ll walk side by side, thanking God and the stars that we now have each other, that we will never feel lonely any longer.

And last is let me take care of you. I’ll understand if you will also do the same things that I have stated above and believe me – I have no problems with it at all because like you, I trust our love for each other. I know, by now, we have already learned so much from our previous relationships and I thank God that He let us meet at this perfect time. Have faith when I say this when we meet:

“From this day forward, I will do my best to keep your face smiling, your heart filled with love, and your dreams be achieved – with me by your side.”

I’ll be waiting for you.

Sincerely,

Your future girl.
