Read This When You’re Questioning Your Self-Worth

By

Your twenties are such a delicate age. So much is happening, from career changes to relationships to figuring out how to support yourself both financially and emotionally. And as easy as it is for you to show unconditional love to your friends and family, sometimes it’s hard to find things you love about yourself.

I know what it’s like to scroll through Facebook and find out that yet another one of your friends from high school is now engaged or expecting a baby. Social media is designed to keep us in tune with those around us but more often than not, we use it as a measuring stick to compare ourselves to our peers.

It’s impossible not to compare ourselves to those around us and unfortunately, it plants a seed of doubt in our brains. Why aren’t I getting that promotion? Why aren’t I traveling the world? It’s that feeling of not being good enough. And wondering if you ever will be.

Everyone is on their own path. We have to trust the process and realize that our lives will turn out exactly how they’re supposed to, exactly when they’re supposed to. Just because something worked out for someone else doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for your journey. Somebody may be watching you, wishing they could be half as accomplished as you are! It’s all about perspective.

So here’s my advice: if you feel as if you’re having a hard time finding your self-worth, fixate on something small. Do you love your laugh? Or the way you support your friends? Do you make the best chicken parm in your family? Instead of doubt, plan a seed of self-love, and watch that seed bloom into a meadow.

Turn those negative thoughts into something positive:

My friend just bought a house. If I keep saving my money I’ll be able to afford the house of my dreams too.

She just lost a bunch of weight — she looks fantastic! Maybe I can ask her about her routine and eating habits.

If the comparisons are too extreme and you find yourself miserably scrolling through Instagram, delete it! You don’t need to prove yourself to anyone. You’re doing the best you can.

Wherever your story takes you is exactly where you’re supposed to be. Find comfort in your journey instead of the destination. Everything will work itself out.
