23 Employers Share Job Applicant Deal-Breakers

14. Too Many Past Employers

Incredibly short stints of employment. It’s fine if they are internships and this person was in school while holding the job. However, if they are employed in positions that are not contract-work and somehow bounce between three jobs a year, there’s a high chance they’ll leave this once they’re hired…and the cost is too high for training to risk that.

15. Trying To Be Too Perfect

During an interview, if you’re asked how you handle overwhelming situations or an inability to get everything done, don’t answer by stating that you’re never overwhelmed. That’s not true.

16. Shit-Talking Past Employers

Bad-mouthing previous co-workers and bosses. If you quit a job because you “didn’t get along with the other people” what makes you think you’ll get along with people at the new job? Now talking about legitimate unethical behaviors in a discrete matter is one thing – dissing them because you don’t like them is another. It’s a professional environment, not high school.

17. Response Time

I work for a tech company and regularly post job ads online. If I email you as initial contact and you take more than a day to respond.

That, and spelling/grammar errors.
