When You Feel Like You Don’t Belong, Create A Place Where You Do

By

I’ve always asked myself what my purpose in this world is. I went from one thing to another, searching for pieces of myself, fitting into frames that I didn’t belong to, standing in shoes that didn’t fit my feet. Years and years passed by, I constantly felt lost and like this world wasn’t my place to be, like I belonged elsewhere. I spent years living in my own bubble, hopelessly daydreaming about things I wish I had, isolating myself into the realms of my own thoughts. But I woke up one day and decided, now what? Is this the way I want to spend the rest of my life? Because it sure isn’t guaranteed to anyone, so what am I going to do about it?

After a long time of questioning my feelings, doubting my worth, and convincing myself I was living in my own little bubble and that my existence in this world was obsolete, I started to realize that we never really find a world to belong in and that we are entitled to create this world for ourselves. I began to ask myself: What does it really mean to be alive? What does it mean to take advantage of every moment in your life? To really live in the moment? To achieve happiness? To be successful and make a difference in this world?

There’s no fixed answer for all of us, but you have to find the things that give you power, the things that make you feel like you can accomplish anything, the things that make you happy. You have to surround yourself with the right kind of people, the ones who love you with no agendas, the ones who value you and treat you right, the ones who lift you up with positivity and gratitude. You have to push through your negative thoughts, be determined, and do a whole lot of self-talks. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s definitely worth it.

So ask yourself: What do I love doing? What will put a smile on my face? What makes me love myself more? How can I create a life I don’t need an escape from? What opportunities am I blessed with that I can take advantage of?

This life is only what we make of it. Nothing is handed over to us — it is solely our job to get out there and create a life for ourselves. All we are given is a blank canvas, and it is our job to paint it. Only when we realize that time is irreversible and that the days we wish would pass by so quickly are days taken out of our lifetime here on this Earth will we begin to truly cherish our day and time. With every new day, you become a new person.

So who are you going to be today?
