Demi Lovato’s Friends Have A Message For Everyone Blaming Them For Her Overdose

When Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital last week due to an overdose, both friends and fans were left reeling. Many people looked for something to blame for her relapse — her breakup, her friends, her coworkers, the industry — while those who were being blamed found themselves under fire for it.

Dani Vitale, Lovato’s backup dancer and friend, took to Instagram to address the criticism, explaining that she and others are doing what they can to help the singer.

“I care about Demi just like all of you do. I have not said anything about this situation until now because her recovery has been of the most importance,” Vitale wrote. “I was not with Demi with the incident happened, but I am with her now, and will continue to be because she means the world to me just as she does to all of you.”

Vitale went on to criticize those who spread negative comments online about Demi and her friends and family:

“Like all of you, I have nothing but love in my heart for her. There is no need for any negativity towards the ones who care about Demi at this time. There is too much of it in this world as it is.

I know you’re all feeling lost without her at this moment in time. Remember that you have always been a community of Lovatics who LOVE. Please remember when you take out your phones and start typing. Remember that we all love her more than we can ever put into words. Please continue to send her love during her recovery.”

Vitale’s friend Janelle Hansen, who was rumored to be with Lovato the night she overdosed, shared Vitale’s post along with a caption echoing the sentiment:

“I’m reposting Dani’s post because it’s been very difficult watching her take so much heat this past week, while handling it with so much grace. As she stated, Demi’s health and recovery have been the number one priority during this time. It blows my mind to see how easily people misinterpret silence and respect for being guilty of something and how quick they are to judge, bully and falsely accuse based on assumptions and opinions. We weren’t involved in the incident that took place with Demi and the attacks made against us completely contradict our character. Remember that the words that freely leave your mouths and fingertips usually land at someone else’s feet and impact them to some degree. It’s important to treat people with kindness because there’s already too much hatred and negativity in this world.”

Leave Demi’s family and friends alone, guys. It’s no one’s fault that she overdosed. Addiction is an actual disease rooted in mental health. Instead of spreading such negative sentiments, focus on sending positive vibes to Lovato, who is reportedly still hospitalized due to complications.
